Pretty much. It's like small continents, with LOTS of water. Small continents connected by isthmus's.

Makes for a pretty crummy game. The guy that lands in the middle of the land mass is gold, everyone else is kinda screwed.

I just gave up on another 'you have nowhere to go' map.

I think I'll try going into advanced options and picking a specific map.

So what are some favorite maps of yours to play?

PS: Babylonians rock.

East vs West - It's the best of both Pangaea and Continents.

Earth - always good for a laugh when you see Roman East Asia or Persian Germany.

Rings - much as I haven't beaten this on Emperor, its another map type that provides a nice mix between Pangaea and Continents. All the CSes start in the middle of the map, which is where all the water is, and everyone gets their own little linked subcontinent to develop into a runaway powerhouse.

Three of my favorites:

Small Continents on small size with half the city states removed.

Tiny islands on large size with all city states removed.

Ring map on large size (plains as base terrain)

I'm a career turtle, so I always end up playing on Highlands with dense ridges and seas.
