Long time lerker first time poster.

I'm playing a game where my score is 3 times the next guys. I beat the snot out of the two heathen's bows with tanks and left only those with the religion I founded. everyone is either pleased or friendly. I have a commanding tech lead too.

Now the screw up. I got cocky and built the UN way before anyone else could even try. The first vote results and everyone, besides myself, votes for the second place guy. DOH! So, I decide to start rushing the spaceship.

What I need to know is what are the percentage of votes needed to vote diplomatic victory? I think i have around 160 out of 400 votes.

This question might be answered by looking in the civ help but I'm at work and this is bugging me.

Thanks.

Diplo Victory is ~2/3 so if you have 160 /400 you should be able to block it (although they will pass all sort of resolutions)
To be a bit more sure, tell all you cities to focus on food and see if you can bribe people into Wars with Second Place guy [or bribe Him into Wars against them]

I made a similar mistake once Inland Sea Map, 3 player, Me(MM), Alex and Napoleon..I was way ahead in Tech, and they would engage in on/off wars against me...One I realized my mistake of building the UN I took part in desperate wars of City Razing to cut them down, but it wasn't enough.

In addition to that, if you go to war with the 2nd place guy, you can take some of his cities to reduce his population (and cause yours to grow). Also create some fast moving units or have bombers start destroying all of his farms and other food producing tiles, and starve his population to be smaller.

Try and convince #3 #4 #5 toattack #2. If playing Warlords, build gold and bribe them to do it , or bribe them with techs from your big tech lead.

If possible, get friendlier with # 3 or 4 or 5. To do this; match your civic choices to theirs, force a vote on 'Free Religion', to remove any religious differences, join them in the war on #2, for 10 turns only if you dont want to completely attack them. Gift them techs, wait for them to ask for tech and definitely give it for free.

You can check specific votes needed by going to the Victory screen (which probably isn't what it's really called) by hitting F8. There's a tab for Resolutions that will show the votes required for each item. It won't show how many votes you have, but you seem to know that from the initial SecGen vote.

Give away the UN, reconquer, raze.
That doesn't work, the UN will continue to meet (apparently at undisclosed locations to thwart terrorists)

heh- that would really irk the hell outta me. I dont mind not being secretary general, but when I build the UN and not get it, then talk about frustrating. Now you can shower the gifts, but the SG may deecide not to run the vote for a long time, forcing you to stay friendly and generous untill a vote is forced.
By the way, how often do the votes come up? Every 3 or 4 turns? Then he decides WHAT to vote on. Was wondering how long till new SG election is mandate.
