This is why i hate civ 5 going through steam - i have spent hours and days looking for an answer and there is no support anywhere. So i hope someone here can help me so that i can try to enjoy this game. I installed Steam and Civ 5 to the default locations for windows 7. Despite this, i am unable to download mods. this is my problem.

I click "mods", "accept", click "online" and it brings up a list of mods.

Then i click "Download" and "Accept". then - nothing happens.

All of the mods that appeal to me in the steam hub either have outdated versions on this website or hosts ONLY over steam. which, thanks to this error, shuts me out.

I have read a thousand different posts of others who have installed in flash drives or wierd spots - not me, only the standard places. i also tripple checked that i have no internet security of any kind active - nothing works, why does civ use broken crap like steam that just shows me what i can't play?

Is there any answer at all?

ps i lost all my steam info so i can't use their forums but i made this post over there like 3 months ago and still crickets.

Try manually downloading a mod, here in the forums almost all mods have direct link to download.
BTW; can you play normally on multiplayer? Any chances that your game is outdated or something?

My problem is most of the mods in the civfanatics database are outdated - and the best ones are in the steam and not here because they are only there where i can not get them. I can get some of the ones from the civfanatics database to unpack and play normally.

I have never tried on civ 5 or steam so i should try to see if it helps diagnose problem?

None at all, i have fully uninstalled and reinstalled both steam and civ 5.

Game Version - 1.01.275

It shows the list of mods availible for download but in all instances (using game hub, using steam to look for game servers, etc) i am "unable to connect to server".

I wonder if my problems are related.

The mods are hosted on Gamespy, they don't actually have anything to do with Steam afaik. There won't be any games listed in multiplayer unless someone is hosting them.

Are the mods in the list in game compatible with your version? They may need to be updated.

im certain they are - i am running the latest patch. No matter what mod i click, its the same thing, weather i double click the mod to go to its detail screen or not:

When i click "accept", instead of doing what the net-guides say it "should" do, it starts a partial circle that blinks quicker than i can blink. my downloads screen is always empty and my install mods has nothing in it, nor does any location in my computer include anything to indicate it even attempted to create a file with a name associated with the mod.

I don't have the internet - so when i got civ v, i just brought my computer to a relatives house. this way i could complete the installation and now that im checking for mods i can't download them from within the game which is really annoying given that i can look at them, refresh the list and search mods by name.

In the community section, it gives me this error:

Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not connected to the internet.-101

Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not connected to the internet.

Instead of giving me access to that section of steam.

Well maybe you don't have internet, or if you have, something is blocking the program from accessing it. A firewall perhaps?
Are you using a proxy?

no proxy and i am using the internet right now at the same relatives on the same computer. however, i tried to view integrity of game cache and it gets to validate file 1 of 1.

it says "1 file failed to validate, now aquiring file" and no matter how many times i try it just does the same thing.

Then it "downloads a replacement" for "something" that i can't identify. then i defragment, start a random game, no matter what i do it won't "validate".

these problems have to be related - though i can see live games and get in community now.

Thank you for your help and i do not know what my problem is, but when you suggested i try connecting to a multiplayer game i began trying everything i could.

Finally, i slapped myself - i needed to right-click steam and "Run as Administrator" - it wasn't letting me make changes to my comp with steam for that reason.

Thank you for trying to help, and i hope my answer works in some way for the many many who only find answers if they didn't install steam/civ to default locations.
