I can't take the slowness anymore!!! Help if possible?

First off...I am a huge fan of CIV3 and of CIV2. I just can't take the slowness anymore. Sometimes it takes several minutes just between turns. Then it can sometimes take minutes just to close or open a dialoge window with the foriegn minister. I can take minutes just to change the production orders of a city(ies) at the start of a turn. It can take minutes after a Civ "requests" an audiance. After all of this time waiting it gets really old. Once my turn actually starts the game runs great. I have no scrolling problems or video problems. I am running a PIII dual 1200's on XP with 768mb of RAM using a Radeon AIW 32. Any clues would be great. I have all of the animations turned off.

Me too !!

I had this problem on a game with too many AI civilizations. For now I have tried succesfully a game with less civilization (5 others) and it is playable .

But if anyone find a solution please make a post cause I want to play with a maximum of civilizations (16 I think).

PS: You can also try to destroy some civilizations before the modern era. . It will accelerate the game !!!
