Had to reformat my computer, and installed the lastest version of Firefox, and now it seems like it won't upload or view .gif files...smiles aren't aminated, and for example, when I go to yahoo, I see the mail icons and such, but I don't see the banners or images...and the common theme seems to be the .gif extension.

Any ideas?

Doesn't work with Internet Explorer either...doesn't seem to be the browser, and all other images show up...either something is screwed up with my security settings or actually...I have no idea...

ok, maybe to give an example...take the add at the top of the forum, half the time I see it, and half the time it's blank.

Or the Yahoo logo on yahoo.com at the top of their page, 80% of the time I don't see it, but sometimes the image loads...

Do you have Norton Internet Security? That software can create lots of problems on some systems. Try updating it with latest updates and also look in the options.

On my new laptop, it used to take 5 to 10 minutes just to shut down, after I uninstall Norton Internet Security, it now takes under 10 seconds.

Trend Micro my friend. Trend Micro Internet Security 2006. Probably cheaper too (compared to NIS). I have it on a student license myself. Faster, stable, and covers your email in a good way (I remembered using NIS on my father's computer...boy did emailing take long)

Regarding your problem Moss: try to open windows explorer, go to
Tools -> "alternatives for folders*" -> select the third tab "types of files*" -> check whatever program the gif files are associated with.

Might just clear up some things.
Do you have any programs to edit photos, images and such - like Paint Shop Pro or whatever? Or was Firefox the only program associated with the gif files? That is what I wonder. ....
