I did something stupid

Being fed up with all the crashes and video problems in Civilization I decided to go out and buy a different game until they get it fixed. Having not played Pirates yet I thought I would give it a go, figureing that there was no way firaxis would have the same problem on two of its games. Played it fine for several hours (just like civ) then it started crashing to desktop (and there does not appear to be an auto save ). I guess with Civ I can blame it on firaxis but with pirates I can only blame myself. So maybe it is something hardware related but I still have a hunch it is something wrong on their end.

But just as one last plea, is there any hope to fixing that darn CTD error?

A few people have found a few things that fixed a few problems for a few people. The problems (if they exist) seem to be a little different for everyone. You can try reading other threads, but don't get your hopes too high.

In your case it may be that one of those crashes mangled something in your operating system, which is one possible explanation of you getting the same problems in an entirely different application.
