Okay, i'm still designing it, but i tried modifying the XML and got the mod to work.

Remember, this is one of my first modding projects ever, hehe, so be kind. :)

Basicaly, the world wonders require certain bonuses in order to be built. For example, stonehenge would require stone. It does sound reasonable and realistic in theory...

And remeber that this applies to units in the plain game. You need iron to build swordsmen for example...

What do you think of my idea? :)

Sounds cool, something that has been needed for a while.

Does sound realistic, for if you don't have Iron, that Eiffel Tower isn't going to be stand to high with just dirt and wood :P Mt. Rushmore would look wierd if there was no Stone. Also, Stone or Iron doesn't really increase building speed, usually Luxaries is what make the workers build faster (I.E. a Hit Musical would increase productivity, listening to the iPod and all :P)

I don't know, the idea sort of removes the strategy from the early wonders and makes them more a matter of luck.

For any wonder in the medieval era and later it could be good, and actually motivate you to go out and conquer to get the required resource to build it.

Then again, that also makes the game more aggressive and promotes a greater emphasis on conquest play styles (which the game sort of centers on already) and removes even more from peaceful / cultural play styles.

but it may also balance it out more, so you aren't focused solely on peace and culture, but focused on war to get peace and culture. Then you wont be going out conquering for no reason other to get rid of your next door neighbors.

Yeah, thats one of ideas I had.

Also, on the default Earth map, it is more likely that wonders will be built by their original civs because of the resource distribution

It would be far quicker to build stonehenge if you have a dedicated quarry to supply you stone than if you had to scavenge for stone in the surrounding plains to construct it. Makes sense to me. I don't envision a source of stone as your only way to obtain stone, but as the only source large enough to consistently supply your entire empire. There can be smaller pockets of stone around, but it takes time and effort to crack them open and find a new one once it runs out

Probably should decrease productivity :p

Yes, I was hoping it would encourage some trading, but I'm not sure if the AIS would be willing to trade, especialy early in the game.

:agree: if wonders needed stone then maybe 1 or 2 civs could build the corresponding wonder per game.

how about bounuses if you have resourses, like building a building with stone makes your city have +5% defence, but built with marble increases happiness by 1, or building with copper increase production by 10%, but built with iron make it increase trade routs by 1 in the city... hm?

Aside from the fact that it doesn't make sense, there's nothing in the XML files that would allow that. I doubt you could even do it through Python, you'd probably need to change the base code.
