And what to do against global warming up ?

Ok. If you want to eliminate Global Warming (actually more like make it useless) do this. But remember, this is only if you play a scenario.... oops, make that modded map.

Open the Terrain tab in the editor, and change the "pollution effect" option for all terrain types to "none". What this does is allows pollution to cancel any shields, food, commerce you get from the tile (like normal), but will now allow the tile to change to something else (unless you get nuked).

OR

Open the improvements and wonders tab. Find each improvement that creates pollution, and set the pollution option to 0. As for the population pollution, the Mass transit system should be enough for that. If it aint, get any improvement you like (eg. the Recycling centre) and flag the removes population pollution thing. You should end up with 1 pollution thing in the city (the city screen) even if it is of size 60 creating 150 shields.

In the eyes of someone like Mr bin Ladin, Dubya and Clinton represent barely distinguishable nuances of Evil. He did commit terrorist acts against the US in Clinton's days too. The planning of the WTC attack apparently began before Dubya's becoming President.

Bush is a terrible leader, there I said it!

Who's knocking on my door...Oh No! Its The FBI! There going to take me away...;)

But Seriously folks, Bush is corrupt and so is Cheany
They didn't create the corruption, but were a product of it and looked away from the California Crisis when in office. I also would like to know the details of Cheany's energy task force:mad:

But don't blame either pres for 9-11, that's just not right, Al-Quedia is out to destroy the Western way of life & I don't think they care who the Pres is. The only thing I can credit Dubaya with is responding to the terorist threat, Something Bill didn't have the **** to do.

Moderator Action: Ok, lets get back on topic. This thread isn't about presidents or 9/11. If you'd like to discuss either, Off Topic and World History are prime candidates, not here.

Attempting to get back on-topic ....

I think one of the things that is overlooked with pollution is that it is self-inflicted! As you build more improvements (e.g. factories, power-plants) your production increases - to the point where pollution is an inevitable consequence. The obvious answer therefore is CUT BACK PRODUCTION! You don't have to use the full capability of a city - the benefit of those improvements is that you can choose to push production (in which case you have to accept pollution and deal with it) or you can reduce production (i.e. cut back the number of citizens deployed) and use them instead as Entertainers, Scientists or Tax Collectors.

Gonzo: My apologies for going OT, but I had to reply to Tassador, hope you understand.

Exile: That's a partial solution, but requires a good deal of micro-management, which is something I hate. Also It doen't do anything about AI pollution.

Exile: my pollution is only ever low at worst. I build mass transit and recycling ASAP and have only a few cleanups, which i have stacks of workers to do. It is only the AI that causes global warming, and I seem to cop most of the effects. Sure the effects aren't much but they're still annoying. And it's not my fault!

I don't mind it much as by the time it strikes, I have big squads of workers to clean it up. Some cities I did have to push to full capacity. The core production cities where I was pushing full steam ahead to build Science wonders (like Theory of Evolution) and Space Ship modules.

First the worker squads maximized all the possible shields from the city squares. Next they were on hand to clean up the inevitable pollution. As long as you put them on it immediately, and use 4 workers on a square, it's no biggie.

This wont work at all. pollution is not related to shield production but to city improvement( factory 2 polution skull, coal plant 2 pollution skull, airport 1 poll. skull, research lab 1 poll. skull, offshore plateform 1 polution skull, manufact. plant 1 or 2 dont remember ) and population over size 12 ( a size 12 no polution, size 13 1 pollution skull, size 14 2 polution skull and so on).
So the only way to control pollution is too choose which city improvement you need, if you choose to built hostpital as soon as you can ( thus increase population) and built a factory and a coal plant and a airport, then you will have tremendous amount of pollution.

That s why into industrial era i built only factory, hover dam and 4 city with airport, that s it. I will built hospital only when i am able to built mass transit. So my city never have more than 3 pollution skull ( factory 2 airport 1) which is reasonable, more than 3 it begin to be annoying to clean all time.

Pollution bothers me very little compared to:

1. Getting nuked

2. Bad terrain

3. War Weariness

The way my games tend to go, I typically have enough workers by the time pollution sets in. I keep a few workers sprinkled around my empire and use the SHIFT-P command and they just go to any pollution and start cleaning. On flat terrain, two workers will clean one square. In mountains or hills, it'll take four workers.
In my last game before the patch, I would sometimes get up to 10 pulluted squares in on turn(72 cities, 35-40 workers). As I cycled through my workers, I would just hit SHIFT-P until all the pollution was gone. If you hit SHIFT-P when there's no more pollution, your worker will just sit there and you can just skip over him or order him to do something else.

Wait, Kyoto treaty? I may not be remembering right but was that the one where everyone but China had to reduce all their production because CHina wants to be able to produce nukes faster and stronger than everyone else so they can take over while we're busy screwing ourselves because of some idiotic agreement? Or is that another one im thinking of? But yeah, pollution sucks, everyone gets sick and miserable and it pisses me off, i hate having to get my damn workers to go clean up the hundredth blob of pollution tht appeared outside Berlin :(

the kyoto treaty was the one that everyone had to reduce their pollution. the one that america wouldn't sign. dammit, they like pollution, have you seen LA? :D
