Does anyone play multiplayer via a dialup connection? How does the game handle? Do the turns take a real long time? I've never done mp and only online game I've played is ultima and well thats completely different.

Turns take real long but it usually works fine with a dial up 56k modem. That's what I had when I first started playing.

a 56k is just fine for a civ game.....but try to fins a host with a high speed connection, as the hosts connection is the most important

I tried to do a dial-up game but it sent me over to the option TCP/IP and seemed like a normal Internet game. Maybe thatwas b/c I setup as the host. Let me try being the user.
Added: Ok, I tried to join a game and it asked for an ip address. Maybe this is b/c I don't have a modem in m computer? Cable rocks.

grrr, i got a crappy 33.6k fax modem that only connects at 14.4 to 26.4K/sec.

As Drake says, find host with cable connection.

Your biggest worry will be disconnection, not lag time.
Shut down all other applications,
don't surf the net.

My friend has a network at home... with internet sharing set up between is two computers. He uses dialup.

I use dialup and set up as HOST.. then play against him AND his little brother and everything works fine... with both of them sharing the same modem...
