I have some questions about Civ 6

Hey everyone, I am fairly new to Civ. I didn't get Civ 5 until 2011, but since then I have been hooked. I have all the expansions and consider myself a pretty experienced player now. I have read some articles etc. and I was just wondering (since I haven't been around for the other releases including Civ 5) what happens? When does it come out? Will they announce they have a game, or just leak screenshots, or what? Just wondering it would be great if someone could answer

There has been no announcement about civ6. Fans are simply assuming that there will be a civ6 at some point. If it is announced, it will be a big deal. There is no chance you will miss it. If the past is any indication, Firaxis will wait until the game is almost in beta, and then do a big media blitz to announce the game with interviews, website articles, screenshots, TV ad, trailer etc...

By far the best things about any new Civ are the wild speculation about what'll be in it before the announcement, then the wild extrapolation from the various bits as they do get announced, so you're definitely in the right subforum here :goodjob:

Actually playing it on release day will be an anticlimax. The released game will be buggy, terribly balanced due to the only playtesting being by some junior programmer's mate for free in her lunchbreaks, and your PC will burn out with the effort of running it.

At that point we all start thinking about how we're going to mod it better and things are fun again :)

Don't worry though there definitely will be a Civ 6. Civ 5 was successful - it's the law!

- and, on release, it will be missing about 2/3 of the Civilizations that people are used to playing in Civ V.

Those things don't happen because of lack of beta testing. They happen because release commitments have been made and the developers run out of time/money to fix discovered imbalance features. Or they just don't listen.

Yes sorry, meant no offence :) I remember a couple of reports from Civ 5 beta testers on here, and some devs on their blogs, that the process - actually the whole development process - could have been more responsive to feedback from the people working on it.

What will be interesting next time round is whether other AAA 4X games from e.g. Amplitude will force Firaxis to shape up for Civ 6. I'm not sure they've had any meaningful competition in the genre for previous versions, so it was only to be expected that they'd drift away from the "Q" corner of the Quality Triangle!

No offense taken. You think it's so cool that you get to play it early and actually make recommendations and then you see the impact of resource and time constraints placed on the development team. Granted there are many recommendations that they either laugh at or are just too stubborn to agree to. But in general, the lack of time and people is the biggest issue.
It was quite frustrating and after doing it for a few iterations, I doubt I will ever participate in it again. (of course at this point they probably wouldn't want me)
