Lucky you're not India ... all them cows ... too sacred to touch ... hmmmm I wonder if there is a connection there .... ;) ... if the volcano errupts then I'd suggest changing your diet to horse and elephant

Praetorian, when i say this thread in the main forum, i really did chuckle. I never thought id read the phrase "I have the plague" with a smiley grin next to it! :P

How do you get the plague, is it from having too much jungle around?....i guess not, as you have no jungle around!

Also, there are a hell of a lot of resources on that map, is it edited? And volcanos?

*thinks im missing a patch or 4558975*

:D

Methinks that he's playing some modded map and civ... and has plague enabled...

Plaques just happen on their own, there's no conditions that bring them about. The parameters for how often they happen and for how long are set in the editor in Scenario Properties. There are some conditions that determine how severe they get though. Roads help spread it from city to city, and Walls make them more deadly within cities.

They aren't in the epic game. You'll need to start a new game using the "with plague" mod under Civ Contents, found on the main menu.

Is the AI bothered by this, too? I thought about enabling it for a game to see how it worked, but I've never seen the AI lose population to jungle or floodplain-spawned Disease, so I decided not to bother.

Yes, the AI gets it too. When the Plaque strikes, it will do so all over the world at once. Sometimes you're spared, and sometimes it's only a mild outbreak. I've had games where I was spared, but I saw that the my neighbour was being infected.

The worst the plague ever did to me was cause me to over panic and cut off that city from all civilization. Then I sent the ships that were in the city to the middle of the ocean and disbanded them.

Um, how are you the Israelites? Is this a mod, or did you just rename the Babylonians or something?

EDIT: your unit in Givatayim looks like nothing I've seen before, so it must be a mod. What is it?

yeah, then in another game I completly ignored it. then it only killed 1 citizen.

I don't think Bluemofia did enough. I would have quarantined the city, razed it down, shot anyone that tries to escape, and just to make sure, torch the surrounding 20 tiles as well.

But if the plague can be spread via roads / trade routes, wouldn't a good strategy be to cut off the city from your side then gift it to a neighboring AI civ? :D

The first time I met the plague was when an exploring unit encoundered a new civilization's city ... it freaked me out when I saw the death's head and circling vultures over the city graphic ...

Since it is a rare occurance ...

Question 1 - what exactly does it do?

Question 2 - apart from cause, is there any other difference between sickness and plague?

Question 3 - what are people's stratergies to deal with the plague?

------

Question 4 - please answer the mod question ... as it looks interesting

Regards

That would be overkill. It will pass eventually and when it does, you'd be out a city. Chances are that it won't cause that much damage anyway.

It's much the same as the disease you get from Floodplains/Jungles except that it can affect more than just one city. Sometimes it will spread through your whole empire. You can also lose units stationed within the city as well as the general population.

Question 3 - what are people's stratergies to deal with the plague?

The best bet is just to wait it out. It will end eventually, and usually it doesn't do that much damage. It's not like you'll lose half your population to it, just a few citizens here and there and the odd unit.

Yeah it is a pity that plague does not have a more potent and devistating effect ... my usual stratergy is as follows ...

Laugh ... spend a little time checking out the new graphics ... ignore it and continue playing normally until the graphic disappears ... which informs me that the epidemic is over ...

I don't even recall if the city goes into revolt ...

Pity ... it would be a challenge to deal with a spreading danger ... being forced to quarantine areas and maybe even 'gifting' it to other civs ...

Oh well ... maybe in 4 eh?

I just like the caption: "Horrors! The Plague strikes (cityname)!"
They need to make it more deadly, though.

By the way, Praetorian: That's the Maccabee unit, isn't it?
