I Miss Civ Addiction

I ordered Civ II in the mail. Came on a 3.5" floppy. I put it in at about 3pm and went to bed at 4am. I was as addicted to 4. I like 5 but I can't seem to want to keep playing. It's like they took all the addictive drugs out of cigarettes and tried to get me hooked. I just start with Askia or Bismarck and go trounce everyone. Askia gets way too much gold per barbarian encampment and Bismarck's army grows at light speed... it's ********. Takes forever to build or get things accomplished so I just beat up my neighbors (who never stand a chance against more than 4 attackers). I dunno... I miss the addiction. I want to come to my senses again at 3am wondering when it got dark out. There's just something missing... but I love the hexes...

Sorry to say that, but go back to the roots. I did that this week. Fired Civ IV and Rhyes MOD at 8 pm, then, when I realized, it was almost 3 am. I'm trying to get Ages of Man to CTP2 and Rise oF Mankind, but my net isn't helping.
Unfortunately, civ is not a safe harbour anymore.

I haven't played in days but I'm gonna go give it another shot. I just wish I was going in with all my notes and new ideas on how to approach things. By the way... does it annoy anyone else that the massively experienced Archers seem to lose (or that they become useless as Riflemen are not 'ranged'... which also bugs me... how is a bow a distance weapon and a rifle isn't?) all their distance oriented promotions when they upgrade past Crossbowman?

There are still some issues with carryover promotions/penalties not working right. I dunno if archers will get reimbursed for picking ranged promotions when they upgrade to a non-ranged-bombardment unit, but the next patch is going to fix the bug where Artillery upgraded to Rocket Artillery still have to set up before firing when Rocket Artillery built fresh from a city don't.
