I have been playing civ 1 (dos). For over a week now.

I have built 14 cities and landed a space craft however, my score is only 20%. I have tried everything I possibly know to get my score to rise but to no avail.

I have been playing the easiest level. With 7 Civilizations. I don't understand
how it is possible to get anything higher than 20%.

ALSO

Trade?????????????????????

How does this trade thing work? I develop trade and try to establish a trade connection with rival civilizatiosn however I end up attacking them with a caravan instead of trading ?

Hi! When you play at chieftain level you can't get over 20 %. The formula for calculating the final score uses a penalty for choosing the easiest levels. Try playing at higher levels for improving your score.

To establish trade routes, you have to move your caravans until reaching the other civilization cities. Probably you are moving caravans to squares occupied by other civilization units. This means you are attacking those units with your caravans which is pure suicide.

You can also establish trade routes between your own cities if they are separated by enough distance. However, trade routes between your own cities are much weaker than those established with cities belonging to other civs.

I hope this helps to improve your civilization 1 experiences.

Trade routes give you income per turn. For example, you might take you caravan from Rome to Washington and get 14 gold immediately and 2 gold per turn of income in Rome because of the route.

Trade routes can also boost your science. Depending on your tax rate, trade routes can contribute (every turn) to your treasury, your science or both. However, every time you establish a new trade route you get some money.

If you want a high score play in Prince or King level with 4 civ's as Aztec, build tonnes of cities, go high tech, conquer rest of the world and increase population as much as possible (by upgrading all the cities to everything short of factories, you just need max irrigation, railroads around each city and all the temples, colleseums etc to have people happy enough to work) and if you can have tonnes of cities at over size 10 you should rack up a good score.
Play as far into future as possible, launch space ship. Do a President's Day for few turns before ship reaches alpha centauri and population will explode...

But of course this is a very boring way to play the game after a while, but it is a way to get over 100% civ score...

A much harder way to get a high score is to play at emperor level and build endless chariots and conquer early...

The higher scores DO go with your difficulty level, one must start at Chieftain level and progress with experience. I get very high scores as an Emperor but like every new game I play and if it has a difficulty option I alway play at the easiest and the move up. So don't be disappointed Vera...:)
