I have been playing Civilization for about a year and I think that I am fairly good at it. I post this message because I have some questions that I need answered! I always play as the germans and I start out on Pangea, huge map, wet, and very mountainous. Do I need a map that big? Will There be enough resources like coal and iron for me??? Ialso have a problem finding iron and coal close too me or even on the map! I have noticed sometimes that coal will just appear by my cities....whats with that???? I really need a stragety!!! I want to be strong military and I want to blow my opponent away in science advancement. I am very inconsistent with this...some games Ill be in Modern Times with the comp in Medievil. Ill have a huge military too. Other times my science advancement will be equal to the comps! A lot of times ill restart because I im in debt or something. I aslo have a habbit in building things in my cities instead of building units or settlers/workers. I seem to expand slow too because I want to have every possible wonder and building in my cities!!!! I really need a steady plan for Germany. Im blown away when I see those screenshots of the entire map filled with cities of one player!!!!! How can you ahve sooooo amny cities, advance in science, keep your money steady, have enough workers, and a large military at the same time!!! I just need a plan, I need a road map on how to kick ass. Please help me I need a stratgey and suggestions!!!!

First, stop thinking you 're fairly good at it. The best ones don't think they are. Your description of you advance does not merit it, and it severly hampers your ability to learn. It sounds like you prefer playing on a lower level than you are able to.
You may find benefit in reading the various suberb articles on this site. It is difficult to give specific solutions to what you describe. Just this:
*Maintaining a huge military costs loads of money, which slows everything down, but most importantly the scientific progress.
*Don't build everything in every town, especially not in those far away from your capital. City improvements cost money and they won't pay back when they 're corrupt.
*To find resources on a map cluttered with roads and cities, press Ctrl-Shift-M.
Hope this helps.

It is difficult to give you a formula of how to play the game well. Also your problems aren't precisely clear to me. Maybe one of your problems is your rate of expansion. In the beginning of the game you should only expand, so only build settlers and maybe a few warriors for exploring and for protection for endangoured settlers. A granery could also prove useful to grow fast enough to build lots of settlers. There are a few good articles about expansion in the War Acedemy. You could read those. They'll make things much clearer for you then I could in this post. A few of the ones I like are Babylons Deity settlers by Bamspeedy and Improving your opening play skills by Cracker .
I hope you like them too.
Godd luck with your next game :goodjob:

As Roland said, expansion cannot be stressed enough. Only recently did I realize this. On a standard map, I would play with 12 cities by the END of the game. Now, I have 40 by the end. It's improved my gameplay exponentially. If you want to be good, you have to expand!
