Hey people,

I'm having a bit of a hard time with this game. I've had the game for about a year now and I just got Conquests, but I still can't seem to win this game except by a Cultural Victory because I cheated. :( Is there anyway that somebody out there could help me get better at this game because I really enjoy it, yet I really suck at it.

What level are you playing?

Check out the War Academy! :goodjob: War Academy

It is the ultimate resource for playing successfully. :)

to be honest i still find winning officially really hard. i can be totally dominant but i hate long drawn out wars and never get many wonders...

do i end up getting a lot of space race victories unless i set my selve specific targets to get conquest/domination

You could always try joining a Succession Game. It's a very good way of learning/improving.

In particular, check out ScoutX which is actively seeking players who want to improve.

Welcome to the forum!

Well, I haven't even bought conquest yet! You must be determined to beat the game.

You didn't give many specifics, so my advice is pretty basic:

Start at warlord
Peacefully expand to 5-7 cities
Hook up iron or horses
Build 3 stacks of 7 swordsmen or horsemen
Go take cities!

I play at the easiest level that you can and I usually play as the Japanese or Babylon. And I try to build all improvements possible before I even think about creating more cities. Is that my problem? I mean, what's more important, amount of territory that I own or the amount of culture that my civilization has? That and I just love building Great Wonders! though I usually limit to only building them in one or two of my cities. Is that a little more helpful in knowing how I play the game? Oh, and another thing, that I do is upgrade my units as soon as I can.

Friend, I point you to Ision's wonderful article The Four Rules of Wonder Addiction. Building every single improvement in cities may, as you've said, be your problem. A city improvement doesn't always produce culture; structures like Barracks are used to improve your troops. Take a look at the Civilopedia and the great articles here too. With those, you're definitely not a lost cause. :)

CONQUEST VICTORY ALL LEVELS just from the moment u start build ALL units nonstop and kill kill kill all day every day u will win by 1000 ad also heres a good strategy go to war win a little (ie take some cities) get alot of tech from them to stop then redeclare war right away or if u think thats an exploit wait 20 turns blah its NOT an exploit

Recently I played a Regent game with no culture producing buildings allowed, except the palace and forbidden palace. Conquest victory in 1190 AD, standard map, 8 civs, 606 total culture points, score of 3582 (low from lack of culture probably), and became Mao the Magnificent. Would have won sooner, but Korea had two tiny island cities that required me to build a navy to attack from my pangea home.

that said, in a normal game, don't bother building improvements until the end of the first age, except for a granary settler factory.

hey thanks guys. I'll try out everything that each one of you suggested or at least try to. And maybe if I'm lucky enough one of these stragedies will work and I'll actually win a game for once.
