I can't play Civ III 1.21f anymore because of a stupid error. I get an annoying error ("civ 3 has caused an error in civ3.exe")
and the game closes. This happens when I finish moving my last unit and the turn ends or after I finish moving a random unit although there are other units that I haven't moved.
Another weird thing is that when I press the end turn button before moving my last unit, everything works fine.

I've had the same error in another saved game when I was pressing the build army button in the leader's menu.

I cannot continue playing such a game.

I have that problem when I play with Russia has my opponnent...

try to know witch "team/country" does that to you and don't choose hit or random...

I hope this could be a help....:goodjob:

The thing is that this happens not only when I attack with that unit but even when i press the spacebar to keep the unit where it is.

Bloody Firaxis ! It's their fault. Hope they fix it in the next patch.

Did you modify the game at all, for example, editing the rules? I had the same prob, and sent Firaxis an email, and they replied in 1-2 days...spent about 3 days playin email tag, they even sent me a "cracked" civ3.exe to bypass the copy protection...still didn't work, i suspect i had a corrupt savegame file (possibly from a flawed, modified .bic)

Yeah, I made some modifications, minor ones. I still have the same game and the mod.

Here is one of the bugged files (just finish the turn and the annoying error will appear - at least that's what I get)

I get a problem like this except I cannot start a new game and whenever I try to strart a scenario I say the error mentioned above, In the mod I use I have edited the rules but should that change the "start new game" feature?

Yeah, my Civ version is 1.21. I really apreciate your help Pliny.

Grawss the problem you have is because of Firaxis, but I don't think the changes in the rules caused the problems you have besides the ones I have.

Somebody should report this to Firaxis. It is serious. A lot of people have this kind of problem. I won't do it, Firaxis doesn't like me and I'm not in the US zone.

Any volunteers ?

I played a few turns (to 1955), and it worked ok. I'll post the sav. I ended up at (I didn't put a lot of thought into the moves, I was just trying to see if it would crash). There may just be too many cities and units for your 'puter to handle...post your configuration. Wild game.

Here's my config:

Intel Pentium 450 MHz MMX
128 MB RAM
52x CD-ROM
Video Card: All in Wonder Pro AGP 2x 8 MB
Max Resolution: 1280x1024 True Color (32bit)
600 MB free on HD
OS: Win Me v 4.90

I have to say I discovered that something is not right.
I've originaly bought 128 MB RAM but the computer only shows 64. This is not right and maybe this is the cause of the errors. How can 64 MB RAM disappear ? I'll have to check things up.

Anyway thanx for asking about the config. I wouldn't have cheked my MB RAM status if you wouldn't have asked. Maybe it's not Firaxis' fault after all.

I fixed the MB RAM problem and now the computer shows the correct number of MB. The problem was a virus: Klez. It infected 63 files (not from civ). Now I tested my comp performances and I curently have 56 MB RAM free out of 128 MB although the only applications running are systray and explorer.

That's about normal, for WinME, I still use 98, with a 98Lite install. I hate ME :o
that's not much video RAM, either, but if it can display at that resolution, and color level, it should work...try the new patch, I just did, and it GIVES ERROR MSSGS THAT MAKE SENSE! What a concept! I had a horse cannon.ini file that i had named...horsecannon.ini
Sheesh.:cringe:
That could've taken forever to figure out, with a mssg like
CIVILIZATION3 caused an invalid page fault in

I had to install Me from other reasons, but I'll install the patch.

Good luck, that is a HUGE map, for that 'puter config, esp. If all else fails, try a smaller map, and/or turning off unit animation....

Thanx for your help & time.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT DOES NOT WORK !!! THE PATCH DIDN'T SOLVE MY PROBLEM, I HATE YOU FIRAXIS FOR THIS !!!
THIS PROBLEM WASN'T FIXED AND NOW I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO FINISH A CIV III GAME.

THANX A LOT FIRAXIS FOR THE MOST "ERROR-FULL" GAME IN THE UNIVERSE !

Well, that was a huge map, with a huge # of cities. I played a few turns, and it seemed ok, but I have a 1.33 ghz Athlon, with 512 mb ram, and a GeForce 2 mx/mx400 vid card, with 32 mb ram on it. Sorry the patch didn't help :-(
