I never get this

When defending in home territory you'll heal twice as fast though.

Chief incalculable in war is the human will. -sean bean

This is why I like multiplayer.

The best way to deal with a Gilgamesh or Tomyris player is maybe to request friendship on contact and if refused, declare war. Especially if the first unit on contact is a military unit. Obviously their intentions are bad.

Iz teh OP A prANk? Nun 2 Rtculit.

Anyhoo, I assume attacking later is not as advantageous as attacking early, so people want a chance to develop a bit. Of course, that does jut tilt power towards the civ's with not-so-early-but-still-plenty-early uniques.

I'm not really sure how starting a war with them solves the problem with them.

Hopefully a human player would accept the friendship request, but if not why delay the inevitable? Start spamming warriors and fortifying your borders. Maybe other human players would get bolder and dogpile him. It's the aura of invincibility that makes sumeria stronger.

This thread makes me really want to play multiplayer. I love the potential for tactical and strategic depth against human players, I just can't afford the time for it :( oh well, red death is a viable option for me that I'm looking forward to trying out soon.

There's PBEM options if you want the opposite approach (i.e. a turn a day for like half a year)

yea I've considered it but I don't think i have the patience for that kind of game. I'll just have to wait for an opportunity for an online game or when my lifestyle/work changes in maybe a couple of years haha .

The real problem with these early warmongers in MP is that they crush average players, who quit out and cause a snowball quit effect.

Also yes, they can be skillfully defended against but that requires investment in units and defenses, which allows the Civs on the opposite end of the map to outperform everyone else because they haven't been harassed.

Nothing worse for both players than a slow war of attrition or a stalemate because the other, uninvolved players will press ahead.

Absolutely agree, it takes a big person to realize the futility and offer peace, offer to join forces and face the bigger threat but sometimes the bigger menace is not always apparent...

Warmongering in the early game is quite low though so I generally go by that guideline.
