My computer was severely hit with spyware last night. All would be well and good, but I can't even run Ad-Aware or Spybot. They both crash when I try to remove the programs. Any thoughts on this?

Needless to say, I have now switched to Firefox. :mischief:

There are 3 solutions I can see:

1. If you have ME or XP you could use a system restore (that is the last resort)

2. Yahoo toolbar spyware scanner (Installs with IE)

3. Go to this website in IE and start a freescan, when the scan is done, it should tell you the exact location of the spyware files on your computer so you could remove them.

start windows in safe mode, and then remove some garbage in add/remove programs, rest with adaware

does spybot crash when you try to open it, or when you try to remove it?
I think i know the answer, but what was your previous browser?

Yeah. That might be your best bet for getting rid of all that stuff. Run adaware and find out where the programs are and delete them manually.

Umm...I win? :crazyeye:

Wow! I just cleaned a guy's laptop at work, and it was pretty bad, I thought. He had 220 hits. I thought that was a lot. More than I ever got.

My word, that's some mighty hardware you have there! :D

New benchmark test: How much spyware can your PC run simultanously?

Close but no cigar. :p http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=55343

BTW are you trying to delte them all at once? If so thats why adaware crashes. It can not delte that many at once other wise it freezes and stops responding. Delete a 100 or so at a time rescan and repeat unitl all spyware is gone.

@Chairman Meow: It runs but very sluggishly.;) Plus whenever you go to a website youget bombard with pop ups. ;) It's very fun. :p

LOL 1000+? Darn, I thought I had alot with my 20. If you can't fix your computer wipe the harddrive!! Also if you computer is running on a network, check all of the other computers, Spyware is a very tricky thing to get rid of!
