I tried my hand at model editing

I guess I should mention what the heck is in the file. :p
I edited the old B-52 model to use appropriate bomber animations. I also edited the V-1 bomb, Ohka and Tomahawk models to all use the Guided Missile animations.
Unfortunately, I don't remember who did the models. If anyone could tell me, I'll update the readme in the zip.

Did you list which bombers use which animations (like "Bomber" or "Stealth Bomber").

Unless you changed the unit scale, I assume most folks have it already where they want it.

I used to do this kind of sh*t all the time with C&C Generals. It's just taken me some time to get used to GMax 1.2 (since the nif plugin doesn't work with Gmax 1.0) and to the way that .nif files differ from w3d files.
The problem was that the Generals community was a lot more insular than the CIv4 community. People were very protective of their models and skins, and got quite angry if you used them in a different mod. Sure there were "public models" that anybody could use, but that hardly scratched the surface of all the models and FX that were out there. I only ever released one of my models, a converted Il-28 model from Falcon 4.0, because most of what I edited I did without permission from the original author and didn't want to anger anyone. The Armada II community is even worse; they won't even release the exporter plugins to the public, only to people confirmed as real modelers for fear other people stealing each other's work. I really like the community here because it's so much more open, and except for a few tiffs between individuals here and there, is quite friendly and willing to share their work with others.

[EDIT]Lol@language filter. At least it's not as bad as the one in Generals (you can't say "God" but you can say "Allah").

I edited General Matt's Essex model to fix the backwards hull problem and gave it shaders while I was at it.
Nice... I've checked it out... some suggestions...

1) only two of the three elevators are team colored... I would suggest all three be made team-colored.

2) I see you changed the 9 to an 8 (which would technically make it a different class of carrier, but I won't point that out)... that number is also bright as can be... maybe it'd be a good idea to offer a version of this carrier with no numbers on the flight deck at all... I think that would be an improvement... offer a "with number" and "without number" if you want.

That's about it I guess... nice job on turning the hull around.

The B-52 is still broke... it "smokes" constantly like it's about to go down in flames... that's with the Stealth Bomber animation.

Done.

You just did. :p

I'm not very good at real skinning. If anyone else wants to do that, I'll put up the edited version (or they could just offer it in this thread as well).

I'm currently trying to fix the whole blue hull texture. It seems that trying to export the model with the little radar/cannon bulge in the rear causes the program to crash, so I am looking for ways around that. Once I get that working, I'll post a completely cleaned up and fixed version.

[EDIT]
Oops, forgot to actually upload the file. :p

Yeah stick to cfc - here's the best modders community in the world :)

I like how the game is open and how big impact has nifviewer, nifskope and different plugins :)
It's very rare in games (it's still pritty rare that company gives software to mod game) to import existing models to the graphic program, tweak/change it and export back as other unit. Usually after exporting model it isn't way to import it back (operation flashpoint is second game wich allows to load models back to 3d software). Nif is very good engine - very open.

The models are open, the mods are open, and changing models by others multiplies new units/buildings etc.

Using models in more mods allows to more cool mods appear - so it returns to the community and creators :)

Okay... well I'm not too bad at skinning... so here's three reskins for thread-related ships:

1) Pallada Cruiser: Red Hull
2) Pallada Cruiser: Green Hull
3) Essex Carrier: no number on deck

Interesting, there already was a Pallada cruiser (which is of the same as Aurora). TR guys should start releasing they models. Would have saved me from making it again

I think that a collaboration (even if with a little of healthy competition) is better, rather then a strong competition, to improve and increase the beauty of the game! :D

The TR team has had all these models for some time, but they are no longer making new naval models and are out of that business (they lost their ship modeler), so like everyone else, they're waiting on new ship models from the likes of GM, Refar, Chugg, Snafu and other ship modelers (which are fewer in number then the other type of unit modelers we seem to have).

I've been using TR ships for some time in the Wolfshanze Mod, though not all of them. While the Aurora is definitely a member of the Pallada class, your model and choice of colors has a unique look to it compared to TR's Pallada... so, while obviously both designed off the same class, the two models look different enough to be used by different nations to help vary the look of some of the old protected cruisers... so I'm using BOTH in my Wolfshanze Mod!

It's also nice to see someone besides Matt build a ship from the Industrial Age! :goodjob:
