I want old diplomacy back

There is hope that the devs will improve diplomacy. Pete Murray acknowledged on Thursday's live stream that "We are getting our hands dirty with things in the game still so Rising Tide is definitely not done in its current incarnation".

I get that you prefer the more conversational style of diplomacy like SMAC did.

One issue is transparency. The reason RT puts the numbers in front of us, is to help the player see why the AI is reacting in a certain way. Conversation and negotiation is fine if the player knows something about the AI personality, otherwise the AI comes across as schizo like it does in civ5.

And I would argue that diplomacy is also about relationships. So making special agreements with another side and seeing your respect rise and your relationship improves to cooperation is diplomacy too. And that is what RT's simulates really well.

Agreed, having the fear and respect is what i was looking forward to when it was first announced. But it should have been incorporated into the traditional diplomatic system, used to expand and enhance it and provide the AI with a less "schizo" personality. But the number should be converted into dialogue to reflect the answer and not at the expense of our ability to choose how we manage each of our relationships.

Nice, where exactly can i watch these streams, i keep hearing about them?

The only down side to this is...shouldn't this have been handled prior to release?

Getting "there hands dirty with things in the game still" is not the kind of comment you want to hear devs say after the game has been launched.

Unfortunately, it seems more and more games are being released like this. It will get to a point where we may as well regard every launch as an early access game :P

Since the devs are still working on the game, let's hope that they do add some of the options from the old system back in and integrate them with the fear/respect system. If they do that, we should get a really kick ass diplomacy system. I do want them to keep the agreements/traits system but that could moved under a "let's make a deal" conversation option.

yep, thats what i pictured the BERT system to be when i first heard about it.

I have always loved playing the diplomatic field in my civ games, thats why i care so much about the way it feels.

Sweet, im going to check out the streams.
