I just finished my 2nd game (I got the tar kicked out of me the first time). I won a cultural victory 18 turns before the end of the game. Seriously, everybody loved me. They were defecting like, well, people who really wanted to defect.

There was no combat in this game. Someone started a war with someone else and I paid them off to knock it off (didn't want things getting unstable near the end).

So what's up with the Dan Quayle thing? I had a pretty cool empire!

because u suck  JKIN but thats usually the reason if u dont get enough points that u end up like that

I suspect you were playing at a low level.

Yeah.. If you play at settler and win the game 18 turns before the end of the game the only level you are going to achieve is Quayle. You have to play harder levels and win earlier.

Why reaching Dan Quayle status is surely something to be proud of. There was never a man as brilliant as Dan Quayle.

The scoring system is kind of bunk anyway. I honestly wouldn't worry about what your rank is.

Want an easy high score? Play on a duel map with one other opponent and kill them off as quickly as you can. Doesn't really even matter what difficulty you set it on either.

It also doesn't account for cheating. Which is pretty stupid. But there's a no cheating option now, so that's not a problem really.

Not winning the game until 18 turns before the end didn't help. Win in the 1400s and you definitely won't get the DQ.

I think the World Builder is pretty much a build in Cheat.
Anyways, score doenst really matter, when going for Cultural victory you'll always have a relative lower score because you'll only get it at the end of the game, while a conquest game can get you a victory very fast and gets lots of points.
What difficulty where you playing on?

I agree with the several people who mentioned that the problem may be that you are playing on a low difficulty level. The first few times I played the game, I avoided bloodshed and concentrated on building my cities, and even though I won the game (via spaceship building) the score was low ala Dan Quayle.

But Noble level cultural victories (which were easy with Gandhi before Warlords changed him) regularly got me a Caesar Augustus score. Of course, with cultural victory I tend to win much earlier in the game so as others pointed out winning sooner may help too.

Yeah I find score go up for victory type. Lower scores for cultural victories than domination. Higher scores for earlier victories

Finished a Roman game today on Monarch standard map, epic speed patch 1.61. Took out all 3 civs on my continent by 500ad science at 20-40%. After finally getting Galleons by beelining i shipped my hoarde of praetorians/ cats across the ocean using my whipped Galleons wiping out the Persians. Won game by about 1548ad. Had 90% world population but only 64% land area. Had to take the last AI mansa down to 6 cities before i won. Im sure i could of wiped out his longbowmen and macemen defending the rest of his cities. Ceaser Augustus and a score of over 100k.

You know your doing things right when your troops go on strike and your losing 21 gold on 0% science. REX REX and REX again.

You'll get DQ if you play at the lower levels.

Danicela - Augustus is pretty damn high. What level are you playing?

I play on default difficulty (Noble in English I think) but I also play hot seat with another human.. (but with some AI)

I got Augustus once when I was playing on warlord difficulty, but usually I end up with Warren G. Harding at Noble difficulty. As far as I can tell, if you get a really high score, you're probably playing a difficulty level that's too easy.

Yeah does help going above Warlord. I somewhat think getting top leader should be harder. If Leader title was given by civ scores it gives you an incentive to play to higher levels. Those winning on deity could then have a better claim to fame.

Yeah it wasn't till I beat the game on Monarch that I got a non-insulting leader rank. I think I got Churchill or something like that.
