Is anyone else a little bit surprised we haven't gotten very many new maps (and no map pack DLC at all) by this point? I'm dying for a remake or a better version of the Island Plates map, and especially a Terra map (with an entirely unsettled continent that you can get to with cartography and everyone rushes to colonize).
If you're listening Firaxis, please release a map DLC!
There was already a massive uproar among DDE owners that the first DLC didn't even have a civ. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if there were a map pack. The map packs were not popular in Civ V. However, once the DDE obligation is complete, there might be some.
I would like a Terra map, but beyond that, I would not purchase a map pack.
Some well done map packs would be welcome indeed. I just played a Pangea map where I ended up on my own mini-continent (room for 6-8 cities to spread out) without even a CS nearby. Needless to say, game was combat free once the barbs were cleaned up. Ended up finding another small island and settling it too. The main continent is vast and I've still not explored it all since it is jammed with AI cities.
I think the standard for the scenarios has been excellent so far in Civ VI, each feels really unique and there's a nice level of detail in each one. The devs clearly enjoy putting them together, and I'm happy we've got so many.
I generally only play Continent-type games (feel more balanced to me, and I like having a new continent to explore in the midgame) so map packs don't interest me a huge amount. Terra would make an interesting addition. I'd rather they polished the Island Plates script than introduce Island Plates Mk 2 for a fee.
I'm sort of wondering if they are planning a 'real world TSL' map pack, but are waiting til they have more than Europe to put people.
But it's true that they could release some randomized map packs. They released a few earlier with patches (the multiplayer and the tsl earth), I'm surprised they haven't continued to do so, as it seems like pretty cheap 'good will' items.
To be honest, based on how few appear to play scenarios (based on achievements stats), I'm surprised we have received so many.
Also, while all the scenarios appear to have had significant time spent on them, none really seem to have any replayability to me. They all seem to focus on getting you to try out different game mechanics (faith generation in the most recent one, though conquest works better). Whereas I want a historical scenario to be more about, well about the historical scenario, so to have more immersion and alt-history.
So on that basis, even just real world global and regional maps would be more useful.

I always play all the scenarios... usually as each available leader. However, I don't ever try to get the really pointless achievements, as to me, they have no immersion value whatsoever. Occasionally I get one by accident, but I never play a game with the intention of getting one.
As there is often quite a few rather strange achievements, I am usually left with several (which has never bothered me). So left achievements are not always a guide to who is playing.
I, too, would like to see more of a historical basis, as that is far more interesting.
