I was playing as Japan yesterday, prince level, and on a other continent, Greek Alexander was also busy on the forbidden city.

Just 7 turns before I finished the forbidden city, I got a 'great engineer'. Because I was only 7 turns from completing, I thought: Maybe it's better to save the engineer, and wait for the 'forbidden city' to finish in a normal way.

Just one turn before I got it finish, the Greek finished it!, So I thought, let's go back 7 turns to the Auto save, use the 'engineer' to beat the Greek in finishing the forbidden city. I used my engineer to hurry production on the forbidden city, and pressed 'end turn'. To my amazement the Greek still beat me on the forbidden city , they finished in the same turn, but just before me! How is this possible?

Thanks

hmm, that is weird. from my experience i always thought that if a wonder was completed by you and another ai civ the same turn, that you would get the wonder.

Post the save game please.

@JimboThrasher, no it doesnt. I had a start once where i wanted to complete Glibrary asap but missed it on a single turn and no way i got it.

Production is added at the beginning of your turn, rather than at the end, so if you have 1 turn to completion, another Civ can finish the wonder before your next turn starts.

Autosaves are there for a reason you know...:mischief:

I personally understand that even with a GE, an AI can still complete a wonder in the same turn and get it instead of you. I think the actual question is more this:-

Take the turn where the OP's Great Engineer spawned as turn zero.
  • In the first scenario, where he waited seven turns for it to finish naturally, Greece finished it one turn beforehand: i.e. Greece completed it in six turns.
  • In the second case, he immediately rushed the Forbidden Palace. The next turn, Greece still beat him to the punch. Greece completed it in one turn.
This means the AI made a different decision in each run-through. Perhaps Alexander had an Engineer himself. If so, why did he not use it in both cases to immediately finish the wonder?

It's almost as if he knew what Lectere was going to do and thwarted him in both cases :P

You exactly understand what I was meaning to explain!

It seems no matter what I did, the IA got there first... I don't have the save game anymore, but it sure as hell pissed me off! But I really don't understand how this is possible. I went back, 4 turns before where Alexander would finish the Forbidden Palace, thus finishing it 3 turns before he normally would, and he still beat me?!

Again, beside it being anoying, I just don't understand how thats possible.... :)

Sry man, but as I see it you tried cheating yourself and you are now angry that the guy who you wanted to betray betrayed now you :D
