Just finished watching the episode. It was quite funny (much better than the Al Gore episode last week)

One thing that was totally unexpected was that I just learned that he was gay. I don't care, but I just had no idea.

Gandalf made out with Jimmy Fallon :p Hehe, well not really made out, but it was quite funny.

Did anyone else catch this episode? What were your thoughts? I think my favorite part of the show was weekend update.

I should probably clarify in case some of you didn't see the episode. Ian McKellen was dressed up as a British actress and was being interviewed on Weekend Update, and asked Jimmy for a peck on the cheek, and as Jimmy went to do that, Ian (in character) turned around and kissed him on the lips. So he wasn't doing it as Gandalf. I just said Gandalf made out with Jimmy because Ian plays Gandalf... come to think of it, that's rather stupid of me.

I couldn't care less about the man's sexual preference...

Ditto. I was a little surprised when I found out that the Great Ian McKellen of Richard III fame was in fact, on the other team. But not so surprised that I stopped giving him credit for an inspiringly eville performance.

To pay my highest compliment, he is a titan amongst men. It's just that he's a bit more amongst men than most of the other titans, is all ;).

 I didn't say there was anything wrong with it.... it just sounds funny if you have an immature sense of humor.

Although it puts his fondness of hobbits in a whole new light...

Just don't cast any doubts on Frodo's masculinity!
You'll be carted away by Darkshade's secret police before you can say; "Samwise Gangee!"

:D

Is he really gay, or was he just pretending? I didn't see the show, but they have guys kiss each other all the time.

Ian, the actor, is gay in real life. Gandalf is straight (as far as we know) in the film and books :p

It's just kind of odd because Ian McKellen doesn't look gay :p. You don't pick up a homosexual "vibe" from looking at him or how he acts. I.E., with some men it is more natural to see them with another man as opposed to a woman, however with McKellan he gives the impression of having a woman next to him...

Are you talking about Gaydar?

Hey, I don't blame him for being a big fan of the LotR. I realize its meant to be really innocuous, but that Frodo/Sam relationship on screen, I'm always afraid they're 5 seconds away from sharing a moment of passion.
Not that there is anything wrong with that...

Come on people, he works in theatre. How could you not get the gay vibe

But it was a great episode, especially the Homeland defense plan.

Even though it is irrelevant, Ian happens to be one of the most flamboyant homosexuals the public eye has ever witnessed. But it doesn't matter. He makes a fine Gandalf and gay = progressive! :goodjob:

He is an ACTOR, not a Wizard.
BTW, who cares.

Fear not, Gandalf is celibate.

Actualy, my wife pointed out that he had his "fancy boy" with him at the Oscars.

Most people have a point he's a male actor that right there should be a BIG hint lol.

Just look at the boys in your highschool drama classes how many of them seemed str8?

I like Elizabeth Taylor's comment when asked about how many Gays there were in Hollywood. "Honey, Without gays there wouldn't be a Hollywood."

I commend Ian for being as out as he is, alot of people in the buisness will attempt to hide their sexual prefrence for fear of hurting their careers.

How many boys in my secondary school drama class were straight?

All of them. Except me, who was above such things even then.

I do not care what he is, but disapprove of all such activity. Therefore, I shake my head and say "Tsk", even though Selena McKellen is a fine actor.
