I always play random maps, size and nations and for whatever reason I had never completed a game with the Portugese so I left my comfort zone and picked them drawing a standard, pangea with islands on Noble. I usually win on Noble but Pangea is my Achilles, so I opt for the love and convert my neighbor strategy and go for the diplomatic.

Sure enough I find myself pinched between two tech and military superior nations, China to the north and the HRE to the south with everyone else behind Charlemagne, and Chuckles is in no mood for my crap. He calls me the Anti-pope of our Jewish state, my AP be damned, and wages a series of wars against me; whilst quite neatly making vassals of China, Greece, Khmer and after a mega war the Mongols; leaving Caesar to control the very western part of our snaky Pangea. I'm facing some of the largest AI stacks I have ever seen and am completely defensive.

At first my Carracks seemed to help as I was able to grab all three of the substantial islands, but the constant warring from an inferior position left me sure I was doomed to have Jao's only HOF entry as a loss. Charlie is all nice-nice to the mid 1700's as he dominates the rest of world and I pursue my "make me pope of the world strategy". 7 wars later I am just as tiny, with my only gain coming in war 5 by getting China to be my vassal and being able to concentrate on the south (seems Ghengis had some silly idea about freedom -bought me a respite).

I am behind in points, tech and power but Charlie is slow to Manhattan cause he's building uber stacks. "Oh now he'll pay": War 8 begins in 2026 as I launch the first of 59 ICBM's and 17 Tactical nukes that I will use in an "unprovoked" nuclear holocaust that completely turns the game. The first nuke hits his SDI city as I blanket the HRE with 21 nukes, Charlie hardly blinks -- I mean big stacks survive as he must have had some shelters -- They came and They came; I emptied 4 phaser packs and still they came. See I have nukes but he's got jets, tanks and I got guys with bazookas. I literally need to use Tac nukes on the stacks. But I get the edge, and just start knocking off one city at a time with a 2 nuke strategy of, now get this: using two nukes on a city then moving into the barely reinforced smoldering ruins. My newly aquired Mobile Sams (you heard me I'm fighting and winning with MS's) pick off these radioactive trophys.

I don't run out of gas until 2039 having taken 18 cities, 15 of which were Charlemagne's leaving him with 12. I'm in first in points, Caesar is 800 behind me. Chuckles never did build a single nuke (he had Uranium) and lost 3 SDI cities :D . Caesar knew better than to mess with me after that . We all had a wee spell of global warming to deal with .

By far this was the most nuclear, and necessarily so, war I have ever waged. Has anyone else used, or been used, more? In the end I destroy 1367 units losing 589 not counting the 76 Nukes and 20 guided missiles.

I've launched over 100 tactical nukes in one game, and in one game launched just under 50 and razed 12 cities on the same turn . They can surely be fun and occasionally game-breaking.

I did somewhat the same thing a few days ago, except it was with nukes and marines, took down the biggest rival in 2 turns, because he had one city, one tile of the coast:p...maybe thats why they prefer to settle where they do?

You have weird tech path if best unit is mobile sam

I got Fission then Satellites and stole Laser. I upgraded my Infantry & Sam to Mobile Sam. So my best units were Mobile SAM and Mobile Artillery. I had no tanks as you do not need Industrialism for Laser.

I forgot to mention this was a marathon setting game.
