Idea for Creation forum -- please read (especially Mods...)

I have an idea for this forum that could help a lot of people.
I think that the mods here should make a sticky thread where they edit their first message and make a list there of all of the units made for the game (well, at least all the units that they find)...
The idea is a bit half-baked, but I think there should be a thread simply containing a list of all unit graphics, and links to where they can be downloaded, threads about them in civ forums, etc...
Anyhow, you got my idea... I think this type of thing would really help people, especially if they (like me) are looking for units for their mods...
Please consider the idea.

I noticed that the download section for CivII, at least, does not link directly to the forums like it does for CivIII. Civ II actually has a download page.

Maybe the creation of a true download section for CivIII would be in order. This forum would still exist to discuss new unit development, release samples, and even post initial versions. But once the unit has matured for a week or two it should be added to the downloads section off the main page. That way anyone with a quick glance can see everything that is available.

I personally think it is a good idea. Having a "mod directory" or some such thing could help alot of people who are buiding mods and need units but dont want to search through 19 pages of discussion just to find the dern zip

Only problem is that we are pumping mods and units out a little too fast for one person to handle

Actually, I think the best way to make this type of section is a thread opened by whoever will be in charge of the file listing project. In this thread the first message will contain a list of all units and all available links that have something to do with the units. In the continuation of the thread, anyone who found an unlisted unit of created a unit and wants it to be added, will just post a reply with the info they found on the unit. That way the tedious work of finding things would not be done by only one person...

I'd support a thread that had just one post that was an A-Z of links to threads with unit .zips posted in them.

There was something here sometime ago where a user was posting units on his own site, provided the creator let him know if it was done and okay. Not sure of the link anymore.

Right now I am building a web site with units, leaderheads, and wonder splashes (more to come later). If I find a unit/leaderhead/wondersplash on the forums, i will ask that person if I can post it on my site.

My web site, however, is only available when my computer is turned on . . .

Well done! I wouldn't have had the patience to go through and find them all.

Yes it took a long time and I spent more than a hour on it, and please, anyone feel free to correct any mistakes. Typing these urls is tiresome too. When you start seeing double it is easy to make mistakes. Also with some units I had some trouble choosing which category to put some units in. I hope this list will help someone.

Sweet. I was just about to go and download every unit I could find, and this makes it just that much easier.

BTW Thanks for putting who made the unit next to it. That makes it much easier for me to ask them if I can post their stuff on my site.

To let you know the Attack Helicopter/Apache unit (which ever you want to call it ) is by Papajohns and Bonedoc. Papajohns did the base, Bonedoc animated it.

Nice work! If the list can be breakdown to 6 different message in a new thread (so people can see the list one they open the thread rather than scroll down to search for it) then it would be even better. (4 era, Sci-Fi, Misc) This way, each list will not grow too long. As you know, the creators of this forum can generate new units very fast and the list if combine together will get too long very soon.

And of course I can make the new thread sticky.

Well, I wasn't in this thread earlier today, but the list is great! I agree with Dark Sheer's post...
So is anyone gonna volunteer for the manager of this listing project?
I don't mind helping, but I can't take upon myself such a big thing... I could help find links and stuff though...

I think I understand what you mean Dark Sheer. So the List would go: Ancient Era, Medieval Era, Industrial Era, Modern Era, Sci-fi, Misc.? Once someone corrects me then I will change the categories. One question though, would we throw WWI & WWII into the modern era? I think we should open the new thread once I get all the links down and the categories correct. As for the manager of the list I will volunteer. As long as we don't pump out more than 10 units a week then it shouldn't be to hard to mange. Now I just gotta finish the Modern Era links.

Well it wasn't me....so that only leaves the Hippo! Get him I can understand since it is a Site Suggestion (there, defended and called for your head in one paragraph). It sonds like a good idea to list all the mods for the game.

Darksheer, are you saying that there should be 6 seperate threads for listing the units? If so then that would be a lot of sticky threads, especially for a forum that has a lot of crap at the top area (crap = links to subforums).

No, I mean 6 different messages but in a same thread. So if a messages get too long, the next get push to the next page. And people can just scan the relevant message to look for the units they want to download.
