Treadin' trodden trails...
Another thread got me to thinking about this...I'm wondering if anybody knows if it is possible. I was thinking of ways that you could start later in the game (with an empire pre-built). Obviously that presents some technical difficulties, but I had at least one idea that seems like a quick fix, and some other ideas as well.

Quick fix: Make it possible to set ALL civs as AI until a certain year? If so, when the time is up the human could pick a CIV to take over and go from there. You could pick the top dog, underdog, whatever. Maybe a stretch, but possibly something Firaxis could think about giving us the ability to do (hint, hint)?

If the process could be more formalized, you could do things like restrict war, wonder building, etc., during the BC years and then have a tech and power balancing routine at the end to bring all of the civs closer together for when the human takes over.

Some type of functionality like this may also make scenario creation easier.

Thoughts???

I wouldn't like that just becuase it really isn't your empire that your taking over. Thats what scenarios are for if you want that. Like the game says, try to create, survive and then thrive. If they let you do that and it wasn't a scenario then you are skipping the first 2 things.

Yzman....I understand the obvious implications of not building from scratch...I enjoy that and wouldn't stop even if this was available. However, I do thing a mid-game start would be enjoyable on occasion.

While this is a type of scenario, there is a distict difference and place for this: it is random. Random in that it isn't built and balanced from the ground up by human hands. To me, that gives it more variety and possibilities.

I'd vote for it. You made a very nice spin off. That is one reason I like some games like Risk, SimCity, and Axis and Allies. All the work is done for you. I won't be so personal over all the double-crossing and destruction that typically ensues.

Perhaps it is achievable by the editor, but would require quite a bit of work.

I have an idea.

GIVE ME BACK MY CIV 2-STYLE CHEAT MODE.

We could control our own accelerated starts, switch sides, and just quickly run a dragging game to see if it goes anywhere; if not, we could quit.

We could have FUN with the Cheat Mode. But with Civ 3 a lot of the fun is missing.

I paid my fifty bucks. Give me back my Cheat Mode!
