I loved how ideologies were introduced in BNW and had an impact on diplomacy, but I think Firaxis could take it a step further. What if in future Civ games, instead of choosing an ideology with set tenets, the player would be able to spawn Great Revolutionaries that would allow them to found their own ideology. The player could name their ideology and choose which tenets would define it. On top of that, once an ideology is founded, that founding civilization becomes the de facto leader of all nations trying to shift toward that political system. This nation would try to grow and spread their political ideas to other nations, influencing elections and funding revolutions and revolts to install leaders that would be willing to cooperate with them. Nations with the same ideology would form economic and military unions similar to NATO or the Warsaw Pact, of which the founding nation would be the leader. These unions could allow the player to help guide their allies' forces to specific targets when they are in a war against a common enemy. Your allies would also be more forgiving if you were to show aggression towards an ideologically opposed civ, and would be pissed if you attacked a civ of the same ideology. Also, I think it would be cool if you take take a more active approach in causing enemy cities to rebel. In addition to revolutionaries spawning naturally as a result of ideological dominance, it would be nice to also spend some gold to purchase autonomous units in other cities that would attack enemy nations' cities. Another suggestion that I have would be to let spies have a hand in causing uprisings. If a spy is stationed in another empire's city, it should increase the rate at which rebels are spawned. Alternatively, if the person playing is feeling lucky, they should be allowed to stage a coup using the spy. This would put the spy's life at risk, and could end in execution. However, if the coup is successful, then the city will be annexed by your civ. All of this would make it so different civilizations would not engage with each other directly, but fund rebels in other parts of the world to further advance their political goals. Once one ideology is followed by the entire world, the founding member of that ideology would win an ideological victory. So, what do you think of my ideas? Feel free to make any suggestions of your own.

TL;DR Future civilization games should have ideological proxy wars to create situations similar to the cold war.

I always had a blast in Civ V with the idelogies. It gave the game a nice cold war feel, with the potential for rebel uprisings due to unhappiness as your citizens want a different ideology. I like this idea, and I can't wait to see what comes in future DLCs. Civ VI has a lot of potential.
