I looked through a bunch of threads. I either missed it or I am just sleepy.

But, I am still confused on how to adopt the "right" ideology. I was the leader of the world congress. The first to build three factories so what I figured was the first to pick an ideology. But now my people are unhappy. I am not sure why this is.

I picked the order ideology. I am not sure if social policies matter but I have Full tradition commerce and two in patronage. I am playing with Venice on continents, King difficulty.

If anyone can help, or post a link to help. That would be greatly appreciated

Unhappiness from ideology happens from tourism and culture differences. There are very good explanations of the concept on this board if you do a search. It also helps to look at the culture screen from culture victory and mouse over the different things. Tooltips will explain somethings to you.

okay perfect. I must just be looking in the wrong spot. I was looking through the in game civilopedia. I will do some forum searching more. I thought i remembered seeing one.

I am currently playing and tabbing out. I will admit I was doing a lazy search... too.. much.. civ..

It was probably a wrong choice to follow Order. It depends on your playstyle and on your goals, but in general if you're Venice Freedom is a better choice. Order is slightly better for wide playstyle (+2 food, science, production, culture and gold per city, new cities start with extra population, monuments are better and cheaper, etc.) while Freedom improves specialists and great people, and tall empires tend to have more specialists (and thus more great people). Also, Freedom improves the economy of your empire and your empire's influence with city states, while order improves the science output of your empire and the production output of your cities. Both Ideologies improve the culture and tourism of your empire, and slightly improve the military of your empire. So I think Freedom is a better choice for you, but it depends on your playstyle and goals.

The unhappiness due to ideological pressure means that you should improve your culture and tourism. However you can only switch Ideology if you suffer from this "ideological unhappiness", so next time you open your game, I recommend considering if you want to switch Ideology...

I've yet to switch ideologies in BNW...do you suffer any temporary penalties for doing so?

You just lose the tenets you already had when you switched, and the diplomatic modifiers for same/different ideologies also change, of course.

I never took any of this into consideration. Thank you. This game still blows me away at how in depth it is every time i play it. I am about to get back into it for the night. Maybe I can get some things going here with archeologists and great people. Thank you for your help

If you haven't gone far down Order, then it could be worth it to switch to whichever Ideology is the most dominant. Even if one Ideology works best for your Civ, it might not be worth the diplomacy hit you will get from AIs who chose other Ideologies. Sometimes, the suboptimal choice is the best one to prevent being invaded by your neighbors.
