If you lose pyramids by 1 turn do you quit and restart a new game?

I never try to build them because they always disappear too fast. Good wonder, but really hard to get at higher difficulties.

Can't find it to give proper evidence and source (sorry industrious math person!) but someone either here or on r/civ did a bunch of calculations to prove that the Pyramids are mathematically not worth it, in terms of not paying for their production until far too late in the game.

That said, if you're playing for fun over efficiency, they're neat, and yes, that early in the game I'd probably restart.

In fairness to the Pyramids, I'd say its a little more complicated than just the hammer cost. Builders also have a starting location, and can be bought with gold. The production it takes in a major city to add a charge to Builders in a far flung, low production city is really where the worth is.

nope! :p
deal with it. (I have to admit I'm always outraged when loosing a wonder race close call... :gripe:)

I would probably relead on earlier save and try to speed it up somehow to make it 1 turn faster ;)

I lost the Oracle in 1 turn and restarted. Wouldn't have any problems doing it with the Pyramids.

.

Yeah. Usual procedure when missing a wonder that I want by one turn is load an older save an speed us trade routes, chopping or citizen focus to speed it up.

Not usually, i learned through many times that happening that it's not the end of the world, + it's more organic to play civ game where not everything goes to plan. With the brain dead AI, i almost want to lose the wonder by 1 turn.

True, but Civ 6 is the first one where a missed wonder is a total loss. In IV and V you at least got some gold, and in earlier games the production would carry over and you could get another wonder.

Saw this thread also and the math was not good. Accounting solely for production cost per charge is not the way to go in a calculation that is much more accurately depicted in terms of opportunity cost.

why the hell would i? all you miss out on is a builder and extra build action big deal :P

No.

Wonders are a honey pot for new players on higher difficulties. Although ironically if I had a good start in Civ5 I'd try to chop out the pyramids because you could repair pillaged tiles in one turn making it my go to deity strategy. You are almost always better securing more land, resources, or military than building wonders.

Playing on Immortal and Deity I don't even try for any of the ancient or classical wonders unless I am playing as China. Its not until the Renaissance era that I can start reliably getting wonders before the AI. The first wonder I beeline to is Oxford. It becomes an extremely important wonder when you mod down the tech and civic research rates.

Maybe, but in V at least the gold amount was small enough to be almost insulting. An often cited statistic was that the gold from missing the Great Library by one turn wasn't even enough to buy a normal library.
