Don't you remember how bad was the very first version of CIV IV ?
It was nearly unplayable actually. Too many bugs.

I assume this new version will take the same way. You'll pay to be beta tester.

Don't you think the two official extensions Warlord and BTS are essential to get a real complexe and challenging game ?

So, I'll enjoy the gorgeous CIV IV BTS + patch + Mod + Modmod until the release of the pathES and extentionS to get CIV V

Not you ?

I, too, am having trouble playing IV - can we just fast forward to Sept 21st?

Tried to launch a game of Civ4 today. Quit as soon as I realised that I couldn't play a game that didn't have global happiness. Unless Civ5 is utterly broken, I don't think Ill be able to return to Civ4.

Global happiness is a problem for you ?
The revolution mod is made for you.

In fact, a mod on CIV IV fit to anybody needs and wishes. That is the point

That's true...

You need a massiv 4Gb ram memory + 1Gb video memory + 64b OS system to avoid crash with giant map.

That is the real good point with CIV V. A totally new way to deal with internal memory.
As the annoncement ... :D

I play a mod with RevolutionsDCM as it's base. Still having trouble waiting for civ5.

If you keep playing 4 and don't keep up with the 5 threads, you'll miss out on the knowledge base of the experience gained by the early adopters. Better to BE one of the pioneers and perhaps play an occasional 4 game while awaiting that 1st patch ... which might not even be that necessary.

How is your glass, anyway: half empty or half full? ;)

Most games now have 0-day patches, you will probably have to download a patch by the time you get home from the store so some of the initial issues will already be dealt with.

If you intend on waiting until the next patch, I say good luck, I will be playing Civ V and possibly commenting on here about whatever issue I have so the dev team knows my opinion so the patch has a better chance of fixing my issues.

What the original poster said was the truth. We were all lied to about the specs, many people stuck playing the game on minimum settings, and on the small map.

I find it funny that everyone complains how bad Call to Power 2 was, and then in the same breath say how great Civ IV is. Civ IV is only good because of the many patches it had to put out to make the game playable.

And for that many patches to be put out, it just proves how we were the beta testers for their product. Do you think Civ V is going to be any less? How can they still be working on the game, and be released for Sept 21st? The game is not being tested enough.

I just hope it will be playable on the biggest size map. I rather have game play instead of eye candy. When the games eye candy slows the computer down to play a turn based games, something is wrong.

Based on the Firaxis/Intel presentation at GDC, you can be sure that eye-candy will not slow down Civ V. The eye candy is very easy on CPU time.

I really hope so. then again, didn't they promise that we wall would be able to play Civ IV on release day as well? Sorry, I have been burned by Civ III and Civ IV.

I will wait a week or at least 2 days till I read all the complaints or praise on the Civfanatics forum here. It will be a busy day unless Civ V is so good that nobody will be able to get away from it. Now that would be a good thing.

Trick question. The glass is obviously 11/23 full.

On topic, Civ 5 will be playable out of the box with a few issues, but the core gameplay will be fully intact. I look forward to enjoying it.

what about the GPU?

Like another user stated, they will more than likely have a day one patch when we install the game. Also with steam they can patch small problems up quicker, instead of waiting for a whole lot of things then releasing a patch, kind of like antivirus software regulary downloads small updates.

I for one will be getting the game on release, and will be playing it to my hearts content! Im very excited, and my Pc specs are good, so I dont fear any problems. The people who will probably have issues are users with older hardware, but they seem to have them in mind with all the talk about scalability. I know for a fact I wont be playing IV again, unless V is a disaster. I too have tried playing recently, and get less than halfway through the game and quit. I have Civ V on the brain mates!

For me it's either Civ5 or nothing. I'm totally done with Civ4. Civ4 has great replay value, but not unlimited. I feel I have done everything and nearly all games end up in the same routine-strategy. Changing map type and so on doesn't help me get the excitement back anymore.

In Civ5 I expect a few balancing issues, but overall a better and more fun game from day one. If the game is really broken I'll use my time on different things than playing the Civilization-series.

...
what about the GPU?
They have stated that the game will be exceedingly scalable and they are aiming to make the game playable on laptops and systems with integrated graphics cards. The graphics will be dx11, but will work on cards that are not.

For a lot of games, I am inclined to wait until it's been patched, maybe has an expansion, or a price drop. Civ is just so special though, that I want to be among the first people to play it. I want to experience the bugs, and base Civ 5 before expansions. I want to discover strategies and modding along with everyone else here on the forums.
