I'm a noob to civ IV

From Lead with Confidence - An Evaluation of Civ4's Leaders, a guide written very early in the Civ4 lifespan (well before Warlords), and more focussed on multi-player than single-player games.

Saladin - Philosophical/Spiritual
One of the civilizaitons most likely to sweep five or six of the seven religions if the player wished it, Saladin is a fairly passive civilization. Great Leader generation is not a direct threat to anyone else, and the same can be said of no anarchy and cheap temples.. but if you're looking to set up a run on Great Prophets and maybe a quick grab at Theology, here's your man. Special added bonus: time your tech moves right and you could get Theology in time to use it with your 100% certain-to-arrive UU, the Camel Archer. In SP, this is a great civ to play diplomat-builder with... but we all know how successful that is at times in MP.

Sulla's Civ4 Walkthrough uses Saladin. So did GOTM 7. You might find some tips there...

Quick (and abbreviated) list of some things you can do (some simpler than others):
* found Hinduism, build Stonehenge or Oracle, build Hindu shrine, build missionaries, try to convert AIs, eventually build Wall Street in city with shrine
* settle a city with high food, run Caste System, run many scientists in that city, get a lot of great scientists
* temporarily switch religions and civics to placate AI and/or get temporary diplomatic bonus to get them to do something for you.
* get fancy with rapidly switching civics: switch to military civics and have all cities build military units, then switch to Organized Religion and have all cities build buildings, etc.
* build Pyramids and run a "specialist economy".
* get a cultural victory based on artist specialists. Build the Pyramids (then run Representation for increased science, or Hereditary Rule if you need more artists in your 3 culture cities, and Universal Suffrage to cash-rush cathedral buildings) and/or the Sistine Chapel if possible.
