OK, haven't been here for a while, but finally picked up Civ III Gold today, so I can now go home and load it up and use the Conquests expansion pack my wife gave me for Xmas. Our daughter is at Grandma's tonight, so the evening is more or less mine. Thankfully, the wife played original Civ, and knows how addictive it can be (we basically missed Valentine's Day when we first got it, because the Babylonians kept attacking her!), so it should be OK if I don't sleep tonight.

Will probably be back at some point for tips, let you know what I think of it, etc.

Yeah, it was you who asked for advice whether to keep the Conquests expansion or trade it for the full game, right?

Enjoy the game. I'm sure you will :)

Heh, yup, that was me - although it was more, "should I plunge into Civ III or stick with Civ II?" Same difference though. Have to watch a movie with the wife first, then I'll do the install.

No, not that way.

I'm sure you'll love it!

Sometimes I wish I could play CivIII again for the first time. There's so much to discover and I think it's near imposible to know everything about the game. ;)

Thanks! Already stayed up later than I should have last night, although, all things considered, I exercised considerable restraint in turning it off at some point. Decided to go without the tutorial or reading the manual, just plunged right in. Kind of interesting.

Had a slight problem with the install, however. Put in the second disk, waited for a while, then hit OK.. and kept getting errors ("wrong volume," and "disk as been altered" - ?). The support site said to put it on your HD and install it from there. But instead of hitting "Abort," I fat-fingered it and hit "Ignore," and it proceeded with the installation. It's been working so far, but I'm wondering if I'm missing some critical file.

If you are, it'll tell you. But if you've been able to get the game to run without difficulty, you're probably alright.

Thanks, that's probably good advice in general. Plus, I still have to install Conquests, which will probably either load OK, or make me reinstall, etc.

I agree. First impressions are huge. I learned/played civ3 for my first time a summer camp. I started on a tiny island and didn't get mapmaking until 30AD. *sniff* I then got my parrents annoyed enough to buy it for me, and ive been a fan since. :D:D :crazyeye:

OK, loaded Conquests, too. Have started/played a couple of games, and all I'm going to say at this point is... holy crap, this is a deep game. I like it.
