Many people are on the HoF, but sometimes we need to take a break from it.
This is the place to tell what you're doing outside the HoF (while planning your grand return ;)).

I'll start with me (ofcourse) on the next post.

I'm currently powerless to go on a serious game, so I amuse myself (finally!) with the second conquest (Rise of Rome) as Rome on Emperor.
I'm almost through with it, and it is a lot of fun!
My revolution took 9 turns :(

Heh. Aside from gaming? Tech support, futures consulting, writing film scores, and staying up to date in the nano and biotech fields.

You're taking a break from the HOF by playing one of the Conquests!!?? Now that is hard core even among us fanatics! :goodjob: :king:

Hey!
I'm also doing support for some product of some hi-tech company I used to develop for..
I was thinking more on the lines of what do you do on your free time when not racing a HoF game.. but this is the off-topic for the HoF, so you can spam.. I give you my permission. :mischief:

Aztecs and "Rise of Rome" are quite different games of CIV..
I also watch TV and play Pinball for my weakened nerves that are collapsing.

waiting for my mother-in-law to vacate my guest bedroom (also home to my civ computer). So I guess I will catch up on some of my reading. I picked up a couple of novels that show promise. I'll post if they are any good. (Sci-Fi/Fantasy)
Great. That means I won't be up in Gator01 for quite a while. :D

Please do, especially if they're Sci-Fi. I like both, but I seem to find it much easier to find Fantasy than Sci-Fi. It would be soooo much easier if they weren't categorized together!

[Edit: If you're interested, I'm currently reading a Fantasy book: Conqueror's Moon by Julian May. Very good so far....]

Spider Robinson does excellent sci-fi. Excellent other stuff as well. Telempath, Deathkiller, Lifehouse are a few of his best sci-fi stuff. Neal Stephenson is another, Snow Crash is one of my alltime favourite books. Have to agree, I'm not a fan of lumping scifi & fantasy together. I like plenty of fantasy, but it makes it even harder to find good sci-fi stuff.

You probably already know these authors but they have done some really classic Sci-Fi series: David Weber, Lois McMaster Bujold, John Ringo, Steve White, Chris Bunch & Alan Cole, Bill Baldwin.
I've read everything by Weber, Bujold, Ringo. I've heard of Steve White, and the other's are new to me. I'll check them out, thanks :goodjob:.

Oh, lucky you. ;)

Chris Bunch & Alan Cole - "Sten" series.

White has done some stuff with Weber. Check out "Crusade" and "Shiva Option" (It's the last in that series but I can't remember the others.)

Baldwin - "Helmsman"

I've loved books by Catherine Asaro recently. I read a serial in Analog and got hooked. She has a future galactic series of somewhat hard sci-fi with all the classic elements (FTL, war, intrigue, sex, etc) and she also has a couple novels set in contempory times. I believe she has an interesting eduction as both a Dancer and a Physicsist (sp?).

Well since this has been hijacked to a Sci-Fii thread, my favorites are anything by Asimov, the Pelbar Cycle series by Paul Williams (currently out of print) and the Gunfighter series by Stephen King (a little more fantasy than sci-fi)

Sci-Fi?

Why not history like my old favorite A Short History of Byzantium (John Julius Norwich), or even contemporary fiction like the very funny Vernon God Little that I just read: I hear it went down a storm in America.

I'm snowboarding next week. So it's big air for Offa. I hope it won't all have melted.

I just did 20 million on Pinball breaking my past record of 15!!

That's a bit fun for me at night, and a switch from my last "fast fingers" game of AirXonix.
I remember when I played Blockout (3D tetris) for days..
I'm gaining... game knowledge? :hmm:
