Hi everyone :) Long time lurker here. I have been playing CivIII for a few weeks and don't understand a few things and I hope you guys can help me out.

Here is my question..... When you build a city and it has gold or cattle just outside of the city radius, is there a way to get that resource? I have mined and built roads from my city to the gold but nothing ever changes. Is it useless to build a road from your city out to gold or cattle?

Even when my culture expands the borders nothing happens and I can't send my citizens out any further than they already are. So, is there anyway to make use of the gold/food that is just slightly outside of a city border?

Thanks for the help :)

No. If a tile is outside of the two square in each direction city radius you cannot work it from that city. Don't confuse the city radius with your cultural borders.

No. Only strategic or luxury resources. I usually make every effort to have any special terrain bonuses worked by one of my cities though, it is normally worth some overlapping city radii.

No. Gold and food only give benefits if a citizen is assigned to work them within the radius of a city.

Resources, on the other hand, give their benefits as long as they are connected to a road, as long as they are within your cultural borders - even if they are not within the working radius of a city.

You can build a city near the gold/cattle to get the bonuses.

A road will always let your units move faster(except in some cases) even if its outside your city's borders.
