Immortal University 100 - Boudica

1200 AD

Spoiler :
Not enough civ time these days and this one is proving to be a long game. Only played 200 in-game-years and it took me 4 or 5 hours, cause I'm always changing my mind about something.

In short, I DoW'd AC asap, in 1010 and took 3 of his cities - got to Rome and signed peace treaty to consolidate and to wait for horses to get online. Lib'd Nationalism and hurried Taj with ~40% GEngineer. There's MoM in Rome, so I'll have 12T GAge. Everyone is in Mercantilism, so I adopted it too.

Got GM from Econ and sent him on trade mission. It'll help getting MT & GPowder to cap AC in next wave, then likely to cannons to start dealing with Ramesses - he's going cultural, I have to stop that.

Now I have Rifling and enough gold to upgrade some units to cavs & rifles and to DoW Ramesses. And to get to Steel in reasonable time to continue with cannons. If I cap Ramesses will he still go for cultural victory? Or should I just kill him completely?

Dubiosa, you're doing very good on what seems like a difficult game. Keep it up! :popcorn:

Thanks! :) Although I saw the map so I do have an advantage.

@dubi
Spoiler :
with cannon + macemen/cuir, you should have ram cap'd in 20 turns and that should be sufficient for domination

I think you are ready for deity

I may give a shot for this game at immortal see how I would do, AC and Mehmed are both very dangerous

Immortal, Normal, Diplo 1824

Spoiler :
Really fun game, put together a tech lead with Rep before switching to PS once I hit Rifling, and started to cap the continent. First military game on Immortal, and found it a refreshing challenge from previous ones on lower difficulties.

AC was easy due to him being the town idiot tech-wise. Then had to go Ramy even though he had passed me out tech-wise and was friendly; HC and Mehmed and both reasonably advanced military-wise. Ramy took a while to cap, something crazy like 7/9 cities.

HC was 70~ turns away from Culture so he came next, wasn't too bad on purely down to the numbers I had amassed. During the war I was elected UN Sec, and realised I was really close to a Diplo win. I thought once I capp'ed HC he'd have to vote for me and that'd be that, but he was still elected to run oppose me and voted for himself even as my vassal. DOW'ed Mehmed, now very far behind tech-wise just to get a few extra votes from his cities, and sure enough the third round of voting saw me edge it by 4 votes.

When I first returned to this game around 4 months ago I was playing on Monarch, and the various series' running here has allowed me to jump up a difficult almost every two games! A lot more fun/beneficial to play alongside others.

@Dubioza

Spoiler :
I had a similar issue with HC, so I took 2 of his Culture cities just to be safe. Also, if you're going for Dom and don't want to have to go through the tedious process of travelling over to the other two, I'd kill him completely to progress up the percentages quicker.

You must be very strong tech-wise to have won Econ as well as Lib. I didn't war until 1200AD and, although I Libbed MT as opposed to Nationalism, Ramy beat me to Econ pretty comfortably!

@all
Spoiler :
I guess there were few reasons for being able to win Lib & Econ, besides some luck in which techs AI's have chosen to research: having a vassal to tech for me and bribed him to stop trading with AI's and I refused to trade with them as much as possible, Paper block was successful for quite a while, I pulled ahead in GAges (2nd GAge was 12T and with Rep & Bureau & Merc & FR and all the specs I could run without starving) and when I finally got vision on HC's research I've noticed he was going for Lib but switched to Econ when I won it and the same here - I hurried Econ and finished it 2 turns before he did - then he switched to Nat without finishing it. I thought I'll loose Econ cause he had Banking almost 10T before I did.

Space Race Victory!

Well...that was not intended. Went for conquest/domination and it all looked good. Capped HC & Lizzy and when I was about to hit Freddy, I couldn't. He wouldn't speak to me since ~1700 AD and some AP vote I think. Or maybe was it cause I capped everyone else. Ohh well...

Started building SS a bit late and sent it with 1 engine, 2nd one needed 8 turns to complete. :mischief: Could've won UN diplo somewhere around when I launched it, but ignored it.

Forgot to save it, here is 1854 autosave and some images.

@Dubioza

That's a very decent date given the map. You can declare war by Alt-clicking a leader's name though :=P

Tip:
Don't go for Rapid Early expansion on a start like that:
- leader with poor economic traits;
- no commerce specials.

Vertical Early expansion should be preferred (VExing, if you will). There are two targets:
- Oracle shot;
- Alphabet.

Celts start with Mysticism so the Oracle could be completed before 2000 BC. That's reasonably safe. Pyramids are a decent alternative but a lot more costly (for starters: poor city site).
Alphabet provides the many techs one might desire (AH for pastures, BW for chops, Sailing for trade routes).

Emphasizing commerce // minimizing maintenance in the beginning ensures one won't fall behind and cripple the economy. Once the basic techs are known, expansion can go forward.

For clarity, Early roughly ends by 2000 BC, in my mind.

@ Jelloholic

:hammer2: Hehe thank you for that info. I'll remember that. :lol:

Ahh, I could have gotten Conquest little after 1700 AD then, had a stack of 90+ just sitting next to his borders since then. :mischief:

@ BiC

Yes, agree with everything you said. I went Alpha route, since I started playing on Immortal I rarely think on getting early WW's. Maybe with some Ind leader and good start...
