Immortal University 100 - Boudica

I have question about this map script-

Spoiler :
Is it supposed to be this big? There are lots of zones with peak clusters so the size could be an illusion but it feels like the map's huge. It is around 500 AD in my game and I have 8 cities with at least 3 to 4 more still to settle. Needless to say the tech pace is plodding along as AI are still in expansion mode themselves and they apparently suck at handling hilly terrain. But so do I! :lol:

1735 AD Conquest

Spoiler :

Well, once Rome capped the 2 wimps were left on my continent.
Capac had just lost his stack and I had a truce so I made quick work of Ramesses and capped him on the tunr he got rifling. Capac did get rifling but he didn't have many units and my 26 cities just mass produced cavs. Which meant the war was over in no time.By now I had built around 10 galleons and was planning on an overseas invasion. Even though Liz and Freddy had rifling I had overwhelming numbers and as long as they didn't get Al it was plain saling. When Freddy started tech Al I was ready to dow and took my 100 cavs and went through his lands like butter. But he was stubborn and not until he had 7 cities out of 18 left did he give in. Just in time as Lizzy was now also thinking about AL. I used a ton of airships to soften up her redcoats. She didn't last long and the rest is as they say history.
What made it kinda easy in the end, was the fact that noone never dowed me after that early war. Augustus was dangerous for a while with Capac as his vassal.

@Smilingrogue
Spoiler :
Maybe it is illusion, dunno. Maybe cause our continent is almost Pangaea-sized and there are only 4 AI's on it? That's my first time playing GH, I can't judge it really.
@Pengu Congrats!

rage quit after the kicking ass on
Spoiler :
Mehmed
with cuirs, then going after
Spoiler :
Capac
and having him insta-upgrade all his guys to rifles.

Initial thoughts..the PH wine tile is pretty immense but where's the food? No mining as a starting tech means all those lovely forests will have to be left unchopped for a little while. I'll either settle on the wine or settle 1E of the wine and mine it.

Wish that scout was in a better spot :(

I apologized for that and I apologize again. Won't happen' again.

500 BC

Spoiler :
Continued as planned. Settled 5th by sheep/stone in T74 and 6th by fish/silver in T77 while researching Alpha on binary. At that point, with first Libraries finishing I decided to go for Math with help of some specs.

T82 AC converted to hindu, T85 I got Math and 2T later Masonry - I wanna try for HGardens. Mahabodhi & Kash-Vish were built in T86 & T87 and AC completed the 'mids in T93.

Mistake I made is I didn't chop Monument in sheep/stone city and am still waiting for 2 workers to finish stone quarry. Mistake I didn't want to repeat from both of my Immortal games is waiting AI's to get Alpha - that came way to late in both games, after 300 BC I believe, so I decided to research it. It was doable mostly on 50%, with working some cottages & specs and not over-expanding & over-building units. Finished it just now, in T95.
Spoiler Image :
r2mg.jpg
That's why most of my cities are now at max pop, I'm preparing for whips & chops in capitol for the HGs and am planing to move capitol to Vienne (9 riverside cottages) to build the Academy there.

First ragequit:
Spoiler :
Tried to build the great wall thinking I would run espionage economy and invite Mech-head to attack me. Was impatient and did it w/o stone, didn't want to lose it. Went a little wonder crazy and tried GLH as well. Delayed setting up my economy too much, and also wasn't building enough units & workers. Quit b/c neighbors were ridiculous ahead of me and it was clear I was short on both units & economy

Second ragequit:
Spoiler :
Worse than first quit. Barb problems. I kind of skimmed it on units again, trying to settle some econ cities fast. A barb snuck in through my fogbusting brigade and razed my nice new city. Mechy attacked there-after so I took my ball and went home

Current game @800ish AD:
Spoiler :
Did better in the early game. Settled stone as second city (one west of stone, built GW in capital. Built from in to out thereafter, prioritizing economy cities and aiming for shared resources / max. # of cities per sq. mile. Was in good shape when Mechy attacked, war was fairly easy (but slow) despite some tough RNG breaks. Mech down to 3 crap cities but I can't cap him w/o fuedalism. Made him pay for peace. My economy is stalled at a low tech level compared to AIs, I have no techs to trade. Will try to dig out on next play.

What do you mean? Sounds contradictory :)

I was going to antagonize the AI but I have a feeling that I will not go for a religion tech unless there are other camping resources around.

So if I do not go for Poly from the get go, the chances are I will not found a religion.

@Dubioza - I didn't see your original spoilered post - I was only commenting on the opening position as I saw it from your initial screenshot and in no way was it a criticism of the map. Really, you have nothing to apologise for :)

To 725BC:

Spoiler :
Opened with Agri->Mining->BW->AH which on paper looked good but now I'm not sure I should have delayed Pottery that long...the tech rate is sloooowwww and the AI are avoiding Alpha like it's cursed or something. Mehmed hates me already (which may have something to do with a double-worker steal I did on him when settling the silver/fish site :mischief:), Capec is off wonder-whoring and Augustus Caeser, well I'm not sure what he's up to but he's not settling cities or building wonders.

I'm up to 6 cities at the moment and I could quite easy settle a load more but a lack of commerce is going to slow me down. Currency seems a long, long way away. I debated settling the silver/fish site but then decided to take the plunge as it acts as a staging post for attacking Mehmed and I really need the commerce. The pig/horse site to the SE was an easy decision to make once I saw AC exploring with a chariot.

1525 AP Diplomation

Spoiler :
I was in the process of invading England when i got the opportunity to put forth the vote, and since everyone running Hinduism was a vassal of mine, i won rather handily.

I moved my capitol early on in this game to this spot:
Spoiler :

Not the greatest commerce bureau cap ever, but production was very strong. Stealing the corn was key.
Civ4ScreenShot0008_zpsb9775eca.jpg

My cities shook out like this:
Spoiler :

I also settled the stone + FP spot shortly after this. You can see i was having a little border skirmish with AC here. He demanded 180g from me and i told him to shove it.

I got my level 4 unit to unlock the HE by pestering a barb city with a Gallic Warrior

@Choggy

Spoiler :
I originally planted my W city in the same spot, but had it bouncing off the happiness cap and really dragging down my techrate. It's a lot of food and not enough commerce. I think putting it 1N1W makes it a great Moai Statues (also something for it to do until you're ready to start building an army), and I think it allows for stronger city sites down south too.

Also, haven't you killed a fish with your Silver city?

If you manage to get the FP city SE before AC then that should really boost your commerce though, although you will have more trouble keeping AC off you with the added border tension.

When do you plan to deal with Mehmed?

Immortal, Normal, 0AD

Spoiler :
In a good situation I think. As I mentioned, I didn't like my city placement in my first run so restarted around 500BC

This time I managed well early on with my micro (with the exception of allowing a barb ity to spawn to the south 1S of where I'd have put it. It does gain an extra Corn, but loses some shared cottages and pushes it further into AC.

I also got the Pyramids in the capital ~turn 90; went Math before Alpha and pre-chopped all the forests.

Untitled_zpse56f9bff.png

Still not sure what to do with the SW land, but I'm in no rush. Also, managed to nab the second silver site off Mehmed without drawing the red fist. In fact...

Untitled1_zpsa9e56f30.png

With this, and HC about to keep AC occupied for a while, I figure I'll be running Rep until Lib to make use of all the food, and then into a Police State Cuir spam.

Congrats Izuul!

Spoiler :
Trading time. HC was close to Writing (he didn't want to give even Archery for it), so I gifted it to him to open Math & Alpha trade possibilities. Ramesses was close to Alpha (max I could get is Med+Arc for it) so I waited a turn to trade with him. I did trade Alpha to Mahmed for IW+Sailing. T96 I traded some resources with AC (ivory for silver+fish) and Ramesses (clam for sheep) and got Med for Alpha from Ramesses. T97 traded Alpha for Poly+PHood with HC and Med for Arc with Mehmed. Settled 7th city.

T101 AC researched Math, T102 I settled 8th city, got GS and built Academy. Decided not to chop HGarders again, wanted to settle one more city for free pop, which I did in T103 when I got Currency. Here is when I put last chop into HGardens.

Waited with the next trade till T106, when I traded Math for Mono+110 with Ramesses, while doing binary on MC. But turn later Mehmed finished MC so I switched research to Constr. T109 both Mehmed and HC started plotting and turn later someone founded Taoism. DoW from Mehmed was inevitable, so I sold him Mono for 60 before it happens.

Like I was holding to Math, everyone's holding on their own techs as well. Since AC got Constr, I switched my research again and went for Feud, on 100%. Fluck it. Sold Math to HC for 120, maybe WFYABTA will stop.

T112 Mehmed DoW'd me. I killed his mini-stack and am afraid to continue, I have to few units and fish/silver city is easy to defend. Christianity was founded. Another mistake I made is I didn't settle horses. I was too busy with optimizing HGardens thing that I totally forgot about it.If I don't get some trades next turn, I'll research Constr and try to cap Mehmed asap. After that, we'll see.

:nuke:got myself into a bit of a mess:nuke:

do :nuke:s kill :nuke:s?

Spoiler :
game was going fine,thought it was in the bag until I found I couldn't capitulate HC without invading his island territory and that augustus ceaser could build nukes...Im top on the leaderboard but this game still feels loseable.

HELP!appreciated for the quickest way to win from here.Is it worth gifting vassals my nukes,should I go back into slavery?etc

man this game has felt long...

@flyingswan

Spoiler :

make rammie pay you tribute, take all his resources and 720 gold
you don't need ICBMs, tatical nuke will work here if you just wanna get rid of AC, as he's close enough.

2 turn rush tactical nukes in all cities(you have enough gold for that kind of stuff with the US civic)

it's really crazy to see AIs making nukes haha

Augustus Caesar with Superconductors...I guess it's not weird as seeing Saladin with Genetics

600 AD

Spoiler :
Hmm...this game it is going kind of slow. 600 AD and I'm at 10 cities. Luckily AI's are somewhere around here as well. :lol: I like it though, it's different.

In short, I didn't invade Mehmed, he was sending units toward my eastern fish/silver city where I was killing them. When I did invade I took 1 city and then he got ivory from AC, so we signed peace treaty and just now 10T will pass.

With 2nd GS I started GAge and switched civics and converted to hindu. At the end of GAge I finished CS and switched to Bureau.

@civnoobie,cheers for the advice.

Spoiler :
nuked augustus into submission,then HC then elizibeth.Rush built the UN with an Engineer and totally owned the vote with all my vassals.

I usually play emporer so was quite surprised at the difficulty increase at Immortal.Its a lot more difficult to get a tech advantage militarily,It was only :nuke::nuke::nuke: that saved me this game.

Ramesses really is getting 65% of WW's, HC 30% and I got UoS, just cause I could. Trading is almost non-existent. After I whipped some 10 units out of Mehmed's 3 captured cities I returned them. Back to 9 cities. I settled 2 more on west coast and redirected my units to get horses.

@Dubioza

Spoiler :
What's the tech situation on your continent? Ramy and HC are quite advanced in my game so I think any Dom victories pre-1900 will be very difficult

I'm trying not to trade with them to slow that down. Well, they don't want to trade most of the time anyways.
Spoiler Tech Situation :

I can't find reliable info on "stop trading with certain AI" bribe (or all of them). I want my vassal to stop trading with them as well. How does that work? How long it lasts? What cancels it? Does it work for techs and/or resources or what and more...
