I played to a quick conquest.

Spoiler :

Settled in place, took code of laws from the Oracle. Settled pretty aggressively but got lots of good cities. Built no cottages and instead used merchants and scientists to get to MT+gunpowder.

And yes, I did actually find a use for the elephants  They're good at picking out HA and knights!

I believe it's a bit of a typo and should be SSE/WE Settled-Specialist-Economy & Wonder Economy.

Someone mentioned the Wonder-Economy one day, and the term decided to stick after that.

I did not bother building the Cistine IIRC because I had already decided to just conquer everything the interesting way this game. Also, I never even gave the Mayans the chance to build it, and I certainly don't remember getting it from Monte's cities, though there is perhaps a 1% chance I MAY have missed it in a captured city, but I doubt it.

I don't remember building any settlers either, just went and took cities from barbs & leaders. They put the hammers in the settlers for me, and I put my hammers in the mounted units...
Thanks! :)

I played this map to conquest.
I'm going to check them out as soon as I get some time to.

out of curiosity what was your attack date with HA's?
I wonder as well.

I played to a quick conquest.
Nice game :goodjob:

I'm sorry about being late myself to start this game, I hope to find the time to play it before game #58 is posted.

WB saves can't have barb techs so you have to add them back in, not too big of a deal if you don't thou, just makes barb cities easier to take (helps AI more) and slightly easy to defend early on (helps player more)

Longtime lurker here, so my first post :)
Spoiler :
Played to an AP Diplomatic victory in 1650AD but had capitulated everyone but Mansa and could have rolled him (he incidentally built all but 5 wonders the little whore). Settled 5 cities, got early engineering, then trebuchet rushed Monty, Pascal, and Suliman. Overwhelmed Darius who had just discovered rifles. Cottaged my capital and farmed and whipped pretty much everything from the beginning.

The 2x gold and early copper was nice (and I found a 3rd gold at my 4th city). For the first time a long while, the Ballista elephants worked nicely because I had engineering before anyone else, so no pikes, and I could annihilate opponents mounted units when they tried to counter.

HA Rush. Still need work on it. Do I get BW and Pottery before HBR? Or afterwards?

Killed Persia. Then sat on butt for rest of game until Curraisers. Spammed cottages. Took a few barb cities. Settled near the Ivory. Etc. etc.

EDIT: A big part of the game was giving in to lots of demands by our resident psycho. As a result, he declared war on a neighbor, instead of us!

And regardless, youre gonna need to get to alphabet and currency. So of course you need pottery, just not neccessarily before HBR. As Shyuhe pointed out though, expansive means you might want pottery first.

Keep in mind that if I get pottery, I should get BW too. Otherwise, what's the point of having fast granaries?

I did get them, but it was pretty late (went down the Priesthood-Oracle route). Probably shouldn't have been that ambitious. Eh well.

Till 25AD. No need for Oracle here imo. Lots of land to settle and CRE/EXP (great combo) gets us off to a massive head start when played right (very powerful early traits). And with the right start Hunt/Min are awesome techs. I opened Agr > AH > Wrt > Alpha. You don't need roads early and with 2 golds available within your first 2 cities you can easily power tech to Alpha by around 2000BC and then get your roads/granaries/defense going. I grew to 5 pop, made a Library, then my 1st settler and once Alpha came in simply backfilled. I ended up getting Currency in the 1200s, followed by Math and then chopped and whipped out Settler after Settler.....then caught up on workers after. My first 2 cities were wheat/cow/gold to the east followed by a super crappy jungle nanna. Anyways, those 2 cities worked 6 cottages non stop for the Capital while my Capital (whip lightly) and 2nd city chopped more settlers. Right after I made my 1st Settler I made 3X workers in 3Ts each from my Capital........and that got me going pretty well.

This was fun, thanks for bringing this back up Cseanny.

Spoiler :

I started this Ag-AH-W-Pottery-Writing. To get the cheap granary and libraries up. Got the first settler out ASAP to the wheat/cow/gold and had him get a granary before growing quickly to size 4 whereupon he just went *worker and I chopped mostly workers. I think I have 12 or 13.

As Cseanny did I went alphabet after writing. wheel and pottery however turned out to get me the same alphabet date because of the quicker growth and size 6 capital which could work all its good tiles + 2 scientists. I'm not sure I needed the academy in the capital, but the extra research got me to alpha just after 2000bc. The map is 'easy mode' I think partly because the AIs don't connect trade routes to each other. We had a sweet river to get to Pacal and Persia settled close to me so I roaded to them to get the currency +2s going.

I forgot how awesome Mansa is - he will trade anything allowing me to get the oracle techs and oracle currency. After that I picked up math and code of laws from Mansa (everyone else is miles behind). Calendar got the economy going then CS/music gets me a golden age and bureaucracy.

Did I stab myself in the back grabbing ToA? It was for fail gold, but no one built it. I figured if I don't get GS's I'll be in a golden age the rest of the way to cuirs.
