Immortal University 61 - Asoka

Two inland sea maps this week, both with mining/mysticism leaders (this and Silverbow's game). Great wall is something I'd not really considered on this map type before because I always thought the map edges would be good defence. But ... I've tried for it in both cases because of the starting techs and several forests ..... and been very pleased with the decision both times. I think it's because although you have the map edges, you never have a cosy corner and barbs WILL be an issue.

Edit: Hope it's not too much of a spoiler that a mining/mysticism leader can chop the great wall and be reasonably sure to get it :)

I gave Great Wall a lot of consideration due to the land size but went with Stonehenge instead. Using the worker, worker idea it chopped out in no time.

Lets see some reports. I'm trying to do work instead of playing this one, but I'm dying to see how it turns out for everyone.

Spoiler :
You were unlucky. I could see that the end of the map was over there but it also looked like water so I got closer for a look. I ended up scouting the corner first and didn't really check out Brenus' land for ages.

I don't consider this luck, more like lack of skill. Scouting is important skill with which I sometimes totally fail.

This time it costed me game in a sense.

@Grashopa

I am afraid a lot of people is burned in SGOTM... I don't have time for fun games much.

Space - 1910

Spoiler :
Played very lazy because of the gold mine. Barbs were annoying as I dealt with them mostly with dancing warriors and double garrisoned cities.

Brennus had enough on his hands early. He was pleased with me because I took Buddhism with him and justininan. He had 3 axe and 1 spear on my border so I whipped a couple of archers. Then he crossed through my borders to Ramses who was his worst enemy.

I took MC with oracle and started wars. Got Justinian and Brennus to friendly. Libbed MT and took Justinian out with Cuirries/Cavalry. Ramses was backwards and took him out after Justinian.

Built Sankore and then researched divine right to build Spiral Minerat for fun. Things got ridiculous with mining inc and wall street in justinians buddhist shrine city.

Was doing a lazy space finish when MM threatened culture. Built Modern Armor everywhere. Took MM out. Then took Saladin out to see if domination would come quicker than Space.

Also, I built zero cottages. Traded for marble and stone and did a lot of fail gold building.

My internet died for a few days so I'm getting this mixed up in my head with my first start to finish deity win that I played since then which was also on Inland Sea. (subtle bragging :D )

1655AD domination.

11 cities I think although a lot of them are blockers that aren't good for anything yet as Brennus was obsessively trying to get settlers through.

1000AD

I fell in love with the efficiency of the fast workers and didn't build enough which let me down a bit, I also missed Sankore by a turn to Justy who also built spiral and we share the AP religion so I obviously needed to liberate his wonders to make all my temples and monasteries extra good. Lib is safely in hand in 3 turns, Oxford in 4.

War:

I'm rich!
Civ4ScreenShot0058.jpg

I leave his border cites so I can quickly cap Ram with his cultural presence.
Civ4ScreenShot0059.jpg

I only had to take two of Saladin's cities and two big camel archer stacks before he joined the gang.
I skipped past Spain as they'd just gotten rifles and took my cavs to Monty. I underestimated him a bit and got a bit stagnated by the weight of numbers. Brennus went next with Cavs/spies and Mansa was capped with some air support.
Civ4ScreenShot0060.jpg

I'd given too many cites back though and had to make a quick bombing run on a couple of Spanish cites to take the last bit of land for domination.

Heres what I did to 1480BC anyone think its a good idea?

It's an interesting one, that's for sure. I'm not sure what else I can add though as you haven't really learned much about the map yet. Unless you've already played it?

Spoiler :

Haven't played yet, was waiting to see some finish times. I'll likely finish if we get a few more people in. I've scouted our northern neighbor and I know he has a religion along with the oracle. I'm guessing I get GPP from a captured Oracle? But I'm not sure.. Though a cheap temple and a priest gets me the shrine. I was being cheeky though with the HAs I'm considering attempting conquest by HA.

Sounds ambitious, it's a long way around these doughnuts.
