Imperialism2

The new forum upgrade is in progress, so I'm not going to pass judgement on it yet.

I always manually move the troops unless I completely outnumber the enemy (like 3:1 or better). Using Otto always gives me larger casualties than doing it myself. When you see how the AI fights, why would you want the AI moving your troops? It's just like automating your settlers in Civ. No way.

Well... When you put tac. battles off they never actually fight they just use all of these statical figures... Yeah the otto is an idio I always enjoy takeing out units in one shot with my RRguns And you? Whats your fav unit in the line o fire?

HI there strategists

I lost most of my hopes to get civ3 soon, so I just downloaded Imperialism2. I like the game, but the only problem is that I have not got game’s manual. It took me few hours to work out to ‘upgrade’ workers – SUGAR! Now I read here something about factories. Could you tell me how to build factories – or what is required.
Thanks!

Spycatcher,

my favorite unit is typically the artillery units. I like the heavy artillery because it's range and power, but I also like the light artillery because it can move then shoot.

jedi,

Assuming I am remembering correctly, factories are in the capital. They are the buildings in that square and once you click on them it will tell you about its production and upgrading them. Of course this is how it was in Imp. 1, I haven't played #2, so I may be wrong, but I don't think they would change the game that much.

thanks Duke
I am at work right now so I have to wait 9 hours to get home and try clicking on my capital. By the way do I need some special technology to do that? You are talking a lot about artilery, Is this only unit which is worth building?

No, artillery is not the only thing to build, but they are the best thing to build. They cannot defend themselves very well if the enemy gets close enough to them. I make most of my army artillery while having having about 1/3 of the troops be other than artillery. When attacking, you need more soliders than when defending because you have to move your light infantry into range of the guns to take the defenders fire, then move the light artillery up to kill the defending artillery.

I think early on there is no 'tech' required, but materials are required to expand the factory. Again, this is for Imp #1, not #2.

Hi sorry i havent reply in a couple of days but with everything going on...

Hey jedi Um i dont have imp2 but if theres any basic conceps i can help you with...

My hearts not really in this now

Hi Spy – nice web site!
I have tried last night with those factories and…. hm…. I just cannot build any! There is no options, nothing! Please help or otherwise I waste my time! What do I need to get them built?!!?

Thanks Jedi Did you register? i havent been there yet and i need all the people i can get.
Well..in the first game you needed lumber and steel to expand a factory. I really hope that helps because like i said before i dont have 2.

spycatcher,

I mostly built clippers because they used less materials. They don't fight as well, but that's what the war ships were there to escort them for.

jedi rat,

CFC member Ace has Imp 2 at his house so as soon as he flies back from Chicago around Tuesday, I'll see if he can find the book and let you know some details on the factories.

I do remember food being a big problem in the game. I always took in as much as I could and never sold any of it. I know I upgraded the squares that made food as soon as possible.

That could be the main reason I remember having such a small militay early on. I somewhat remember upgrading workers a lot rather than having lots of unskilled workers. I think I kicked most of them up to at least the second level, but then later in the game made most of them experts.

From what I remember it is just simple math. You count up what resources you have, how much labor it will take to make what you want and make sure you have enough people.

That's the other reason I upgraded my workers so much. They provide more labor when better trained. So, if 2 unskilled workers provide 4 labor, while 1 skilled worker provides the same 4 labor, you get high labor production but use less food. So I would rather train a worker than bring in a new one. Upgrading them to expert workers was a bit more expensive so I usually waited till a little later to start doing that.

Jedi rat,

Ace is now planning on returning at the end of Sept., so an answer for you might be delayed a bit.

There are some things you should be looking at the entire game. Always check what the other GP's are buying and selling. If they are buying horses and arms, watch out, they could be gearing up for a war. If they are buying clothing and furniture, they may be trying to expand their population to make an army.

The key thing is thier relationship to you and your allies and which territories they have troops in (the ones with flags or whatever the icon is).

I had one game where another GP had a HUGE army, but was on a different continent. Instead of building an army to fight his, I built war ships and tore his navy apart. He couldn't transport all his troops off his landmass at the same time so I got to fight them in chunks with my smaller army and wiped them out.
