Oh yeah that makes me mad and the thiing will say that nation is too deeply influnce by another power

Did another gp ever declare war on one of the little nations and a popup cameup and asked if you wanted to interven that makes me mad too

I know that was one of the most annoying parts of the game. I spend all this time and money getting one stupid little nation to be favorable to me, and it seems like another turn or two and they'd become mine, then wham! They are pulled completely the other way and all that effort is gone.

I remember several games where I would be fighting almost everyone because they were pushing on my lesser nations. That is when they were targeted by my navy and their ships destroyed and their cargo captured. That stops any GP from going too far with a war. No money or raw materials...., no goods, or guns.

Were your blockades ever that succsessful? I will sink or capture what seems like their entire merchant marine but they will still fight just as strong as if nothing ever happend

The blockades take alittle longer to see the effects of. But if you get a good blockade going and are fighting him, you will see that after the first or second battle that the units they are using are not as good as before.

Be sure you are putting blockades up that don't allow him to move his ships at all. Letting some ships through will still have an effect, but it will take longer. I remember that I needed 5 or 6 good navy groups to slow down their trading. Put them in spots where the water narrows down to one square, or just outside his port cities, or in the port cities of the ones he trades with the most. Then start kicking his butt in battle and he'll be dead in no time.

You can also draw his troops away from territories you want to attack. Just attack one next to it and then retreat (I think you might have to actually have a round of fighting for this to work most times). The AI with then think you are trying to take that square and reinforce it with nearby troops. Then you attack the one next to it and generally can take it because it has less troops then the other one. The beauty of this is that then the comp will take his big army square and attack you, but this time you are the defender.

HMMM...Very interesting i see you were more into the war aspects of the game than i. I shall use your tips.Did you start out early in your conquests or did you streamline infustructure at first?

I'm always the strategist.

In case you didn't notice my list of favorite games other than civ, they are all generally war games.

You have to start with infrastructure, otherwise you won't have enough money to build the big navy and army. I always had it where I bought the raw materials and had the factory production to turn them into the units I wanted, rather than buy it at some later production stage. Doing this not only costs you less, but gives you better relations with the lesser powers early on.

I would even have it where I bought all I could of one resource just so some other GP couldn't get any.

I seem to remember buying lots and lots of timber since that is used to upgrade the factories and such.

Yes it quite important to build your infustrutrure up first before laying seige to the enemy in ANY game. It seems that you had a lot of money on hand i havent yet mastered the art of financies snd usally am short on cash for the first part of the game(when i need it most) I nervermade that big of a navy the other gps dont build but like 5 ships so i am by far the ruler of the seas with my 10 ship-of-lines

No, it's not normal, but then again, neither are you, so.....

(Sorry, I just can't pass up an opportunity to take a shot at Gengis. After all the stuff I've seen him post he just seems to be asking for it.

)

How do you die? The other GP just attack you, or do you run out of money, or what?

Give us an idea of what your doing and maybe we can get you over some of the bumps. Just remember, I haven't played this game in years and am basing everything off memory (yes, I know, very scarey thought).

Oh you play now how exciting! I used to be horrible at the game so dont feel bad
wink.gif
Okay so do you get killed be all the gps ganging up on you or what? One major thing to do if you are at war is (1)dont over-extend your troops some times a hoard of troops is better than a small band. (2) Have a strong navy they are one of the most important and powerful tools in the game they can blockade your enemy thus destroying the war machine by not allowing them access to material and denying them cash.

I'll try to help you some more but you'll need to give me more info. Hope this helped.

Sorry to butt in. A very respected reviewer at Games Domain rates Imperialism II second only to .... Europa Universalis .... as a historical strategy game. He seems to suggest it is much improved over the original. He thinks it simpler than EU but well worth playing, so I want to get it.

Trouble is ... not price ... I can't find it anywhere! not in local shops not on net. Any one know what has happened to it?

By the way, I got EU about three weeks ago and I don't play anything else at the moment. There is a thread on it.

How dare you interrupt us! I guess we'll allow it since Genghis doesn't seem to be in that big of a hurry to get any questions answered.

They have a few on E-bay

I know the one I bought awhile ago is still sitting on a shelf not being used (and available) and has never (maybe once or twice) been opened.

I tried going to the Imperialism2 Website , but it never fully loaded right. I did find a link for buying it, but when I finally got there, it says it is unavailable.

Other than that, sorry.

Edit: I'm not sure why the search results page for E-bay isn't right, so I changed it to the E-bay search main page. You can search from there.

Sorry sorry, I was quite busy the past days. So my problem is that I focus much on the navy and my land forces are quite poor, and mainly composed with artillery, which can fire from a great range. The other problem is that after a certain period of peace, GP automatically declare war on me, for no apparent reason. And I can't do anything to keep our peace treaty. That's all. Heeeeelp.

The same things hapeen to me GK. Even if you have an allinace they break it and even if your DARK GREEN with them! It really annoying and i just start a new game. The only thing i can think of is to declare war on them first sorry if this dosent really help but im in a hurry and will be leaving. So HOPEFULLY
wink.gif
the duke can help you GK.

Whew. Ok, I'm trying to think really hard now. What did I do when starting out?

I know I focused on buying all the timber I could and making furniture to sell. And also expanding my factories. I didn't start building a military until a little later.

The other GP start to declare war because they are either paid to do so, or you start to push on minor powers that they want. Once you start to become a threat they will start to become unfriendly.

I can't remember how to keep them at peace, or if that is even what i did. I somewhat remember building one large army and just starting to roll up the MP that opposed me.

I also kinda remember that they declared war on me a lot, but never really attacked much.

Hmmmm, that's all I can come up with right now.

Someday I might actually find the game box and can share all my notes on it.

i think imp2 is a great game. production, exploration and war are in harmony. researches are well planned. resources like sugar, tobacco, spice etc. are different from other games. i played game for a long time. But i always want to play campaigns and missions. if there exist missions ,game will be more playable. i prefer Sho-gun ,looks like a little same, or Zeus (i recommendation all "impression games" city building series)
