Presently I am playing a game where I am like the MIddle East is today. I am playing as the Germans on Regent level. I am on a small island in the Industrial Age with 2 other civs, the Babylonians and Aztecs. They both have just arrived in the Industrial and their average forces are made up of spearmen and longbowmen with the occasional rifleman. The same thing for me except mine is all rifle men. Every other nation in the world who are all in the Modern age have signed embargos against us and we are at a constant state of war. Every turn or so cities switch hands. the only ally i have is the americans who are on the other side o f the world. I have 7 cities as of now, the Babylonians 6 and the Aztecs 6 as well. There Are absolutely NO stragtegic resources on this island and the only luxuries are some wines in Babylon. My question is: How do I get out of this position and what advice can anyone give me to catch up before everyone else gets nukes before me?

You are certainly caught between a rock and a hard place. :)

I assume you're playing with patch 1.17.

Running riflemen into riflemen will create a stalemate real quick, as they are not as useful on the offense as they are defensively.

You're going to have to wait for a trade embargo to expire and import horses/saltpeter for cavalry. When the 20 turns is up, its pretty unlikely that every AI will re-sign their embargo, give a few small gifts to boost relations though. 50 gold is enough to change an AI's attitude from annoyed to polite, as long as you haven't been at war with them. They may be less likely to renew the deal this way.

Taking control of those babylonian wines should be a priority. Once you have something of value to trade, you won't see nearly as many embargos. Just make sure to export your product fairly quickly, even at a bit of a price sacrifice. Trading luxuries is one of the fastest and easiest ways to improve relations.

If you can only get saltpeter, build cannons to compliment your riflemen and bombard defenders down to 1-2 health bars.

With your current situation, you aren't going to catch up technology wise unless you conquer that island. Once the captured (or rebuilt) cities are improved a bit, you'll be generating enough gold to buy technology from the AI civs fairly cheaply.

I just discovered Flight and was able to build the Hoover Dam Wonder. The Embargos just ended, but most(not all) of them were resigned 2 turns later. The good thing about being consistantly at war is many leaders.:) I have traded for Rubber and i am using artillery and infantry which as given me a good advantage. All I need to know now is how to deal with the meddling Iriqoius, who have been attempting to keep the war going by suppying my enemies with resources and money. They are the most powerful nation in the world and have (according to spies, which I also rushed with a leader) 4 subs with tatical nukes sitting off my coast. I need to find out how to topple them before they get Icbms.

Appeasement.... Give them something if u cant fight them join them.

p.s this may not work....
p.p.s according to history it rarely ever works.
p.p.p.s take my advice i dont use it anyway.
