Hello lads,

I am new to civ and been on this forum for a while. I have learnt a lot from u people and i have a question that i bet someone here must know.

I bought a copy of civ a few weeks ago and on the cover it says $40 in game bonus.
I asked the seller how to claim it and he told me the info is inside the dvd and i will need to go through steam.

I am at a lost, i searched the dvd and found nothing, i searched steam which is all new to me and no success.

Would someone kind enough please tell me how to claim this $40 bonus written on the cover. Surely there must be one of you guys who got this bonus and can help me claim it.

I could use that bonus to buy some Civ dlc and the wonders pack :)

Thank you heaps for responding , i greatly appreciate.

I guess this should mean the DLC codes are somehow included, or that you already bought the GOTY version with all the DLCs (everything else would not make really much sense for me).

Did you check if you have the DLC packs (e.g. Polynesia) already in this installation?
If not, are there maybe any other activation codes flying around in the box?

I bought the GOTY version - excluding the Korea dlc.

I looked in the books, nothing, just a technology research map and and a piece of paper cover. Looked into the dvd and no codes flying around anywhere.

Try looking in the Civilopedia (in the game). Do civs like Spain, The Inca, and Polynesia show up? If so you probably already have all of the bonuses available to you.

I did a quick search and found a web page that lists all of the available options for the GOTY version: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/14/civilization-5-goty-edition-announced-available-sept-27/

You can check to see if each individual bonus (including maps) is available by looking at the single player advance game setup screen with in the game.

Oops sorry about that.

I just took the first thing that I found in a search. I guess I should have looked here first.

Yes they do appear as DLC. But it is written on the cover of the dvd that there is $40 worth of bonus to be spent.

Isnt each additional civ $5-10? Its probably $40 retail, but you could get them much cheaper on sale. I actually got Civ 5 for $5 on Amazon not that long ago. The $40 offer is marketting, and in your case it seemed to work :)

Ok here is the attachment of the cover. Look bottom right hand side...

AAAAAHHHHHHHH - I get it now. Those DLCs are what is the $40 bonus in the dvd. Marketing thieves misleading people. Geez.

What misleading? You got things for free that I had to pay for. I would have loved to get all of that for $40.00 instead of paying a lot more. Of course I didn't want to wait until now to play the game....

Always interesting to see such stuff is allowed. To me it's either:
I'm buying Civ V Vanilla and get all the DLC in form of the "40$ bonus" - would make sense.
But when I buy the GOTY edition and it says I get 40$ dollar worth of extras with
it, then I should not have to expect receiving "vanilla + the dlcs" but
"goty (which is defined already as vanilla + dlcs) + the actual bonus".

It's kinda clear when you look at it, knowing that this kind of marketing is standard... that's what happens if laws aren't made for people. Wouldn't be too hard to only be allowed to print stuff that could not be misunderstood easily.

Same thing: Why is it allowed that when I buy something to eat on the cover is a good looking colorful (since it was colored) photoshopped piece of plastic while when I open it I receive a bad looking grey-ish piece of probably meat/cookie/whatever. At best this creates disappointment.
There is no point in this being allowed either - it's not like people would rather starve to death if the covers weren't looking more delicious than the food looks actually and there is no advantage/disadvantage between manufacturers if no one is allowed to do it.

Sorry for going slightly off-topic

I don't care how much i paid for it. When i went out to buy Civ V i went explicitly for the GOTY version after reading from the forums here. It was my understanding that the GOTY comes with DLCs "STANDARD".

I look at the box, i see GOTY and i think everything included.

There's no reason for telling me how much money in value i have been given, i already knew that when choosing the GOTY version. Hence why i thought this was an over the top bonus.

Genuine mis-understanding. No big deal, I was just curious and now I know, life goes on. Loving every minute of Civ V :) This is my first time to ever come across steam and this game for that matter. Cut me some slacks !!
