[GS] Inca Discussion Thread

Looks a very solid civ design, especially like the UU.
Probably won't be the new civ I'll play first but I suspect I'll end up playing them a lot.
I like them too. I was just really hoping for a power to build districts on mountains (for the graphic look if nothing else), so I was mildly disappointed at the reveal.

This will probably be the first civ I play when GS comes out. I love infrastructure-based civs. My idea of a boring civ would be the khans or zulu... bonuses to nothing but war? Boring... combat is not what I play civ for. I'm playing CIV CITY UNLIMITED 2000 BABY

I'm with you. Food bonuses aren't very fun. Their super power is high population and early mountain teleportation. Kinda meh.
More food = more population = more tiles being worked. I'm not sure why other people see that as lackluster, but I'm very well aware that I also don't play deity/aggressive multiplayer so for me, this is exactly what I want. And also if you are aggressive (or even defensive), being able to teleport troops across a mountain range easily destroys a natural barrier for a foe, and assists your defense respectively.

Better than the way Carthage crossed mountains in Civ V. That was garbage. And now you don't have the combat imbalance of units attacking from fully defensible mountain tiles.

I was new in Civ when I tried Carthage in Civ V, so I set to play in a map type that would have tons of mountains for me to use her ability. It didn't go well...

I don't mind going under them, just not that you magically zap from one side to the other. It should cost regular movement with maybe another layer when they're underground. That would take more work though, I understand.

It's so generalist. It doesn't help you specifically for any particular victory. That's uninteresting.

That's fair I guess. I don't think generalist is bad necessarily - it gives you more flexibility in what you want to pursue. But it would help if they had something more specific to a certain victory condition, you're right.

I have to be honest, I like generalist. It's not going to command any aspect of the game but that's okay.

Like I said I'm still not sure about the mountain tiles though. Trying to think of a situation where that would be the tile you want to work.

Reminds me a bit of the Vox Populi rendition of Inca in Civ V. Anyway a bit generalist approach of a civ (just kinda good at whatever) but nothing particularly original other than the mountain aspect of course. I could see the internal trade routes + terrace farm combo in mountainous regions resulting in ridiculous amounts of food per city though. I feel like you might be lacking in housing until you get neighbourhoods but otherwise seems strong

New religion or custom one?

Edit: Surprised it's not Inti.
I seem to recall they had a custom religion in the Cree First Look as well.

Looks like a solid Civ, I'll enjoy playing them, but probably not first.

So you think there is a range limit on how far can they "teleport" thru the tunnels? If say, there is 10 tile long mountain range and I built tunnels at each end, would we the units be able to traverse them in just one move? I wonder...

I speculate that there is no range limit so long as the mountains are contiguous and there is a portal at the other end.

I think they look interesting. Okay, mountain tile yields aren't that great, but imagine a site with lots of mountains. Other civs will be starved for food and production. The Inca only needs to plop down a few Terrace Farms, send a internal trade route from the city and watch the pop increase quickly. Housing might be a problem, but they can actually get some production from the mountain tiles if they have few other workable tiles within city borders.

They are kinda like Canada. Neither tundra or spots with lots of mountains are prime locations but they can do decent cities there (although the Inca seem better).

Terrace farms can't be built in Tundra. They can only be build in grassland, plains and desert.

I hope they maybe change the formula so 2 MP gets you to "X" away in mountain tunnel range
