[GS] Increasing difficulty mod

Choosing difficulty when starting a game usually only sets the difficulty for the first part of the game. Once I´ve overcome the AI:s initial bonuses I can just snowball past.

Is there a mod that somehow maintains a relative difficulty over the eras? In Civ 4 Rhye´s made later game civs start at a challenge vs the player, even if you overcame early game challenges the later spawns could be real headaches. I am open to other variants since we dont have later spawning civs. Yet.
 
I haven't found one. I have had some luck with mods that increase tech and civic costs. I think theres too much for the AI to do even with deity bonuses. That's why Kongo always seems to be consistently better than other AI. They're locked out of building holy sites.

I'm in a game with a 2X cost mod right now and the AI is staying close to on par with tech and producing a ton of units that make domination tougher even with the AI acting dumb. With the higher costs ot takes longer for the player to catch up and pass the AI. They're also building better cities and Japan has over 1k science per turn in this game. It's rare to see that.

I think 2X may be too much though. I have too many cities able to build everything. I think I may switch over to a 1.5X mod to tone it down a bit. Still need choices and all.
 
Hmm, that very much sounds like just increasing the treshold where you pass the AI. Actually I dont need something that makes things super complicated, just some competition later game as well.
 
Kinda, yeah it takes longer to pass them but since they're developing their cities better they keep pace as well. I'm just barely staying ahead of Japan in science and the other civs in the game aren't lagging much. AFAIK the only civ I can declare a colonial war on is the Netherlands and I think that's only because Scotland has been dominating her the whole game. I guess I'm just happy to have a competitive game as far along as the information era. Usually I'm two eras ahead by this point.

Yes... @FearSunn created one and has spent some good time on it... not sure if it is patch ready. It is called the Adaptive Difficulty Mod and is at version 3.

Thank you. Can you tell me what said mod is called? I already have the adaptive difficulty mod, and the game still breaks around the Renissance :-(
