indians; trade with or loot?

I can't ever get a strong foothold in South America. The Tupi's always attack me(i'm overusing their land) heyeah right! lol
Plus the other imperial powers always harass me in S. America, and i can't get a good colony near the inca's :(

If you look in southern South America, just before the plains stop and the desert begins, you'll see a place where the river meets the sea. It should have some forest, some grassland and some prarie there. It's a nice place for a colony- you can get cotton, tobacco, and maybe even sugar there. And there's a relatively good chance there will be a cotton thing, tobacco leaf, or a tree there for extra cotton, tobacco or timber. I highly suggest it. (I'd get a screen shot if I could find my copy of Colonization. :ack: )

i know a site where you can download Colonization if you want. Heck Civ1 for that matter! :-D
The colonization on my computer, for some reason i don't need the CD to run it :)
U want the site? if so PM me cause i don't think TF likes people putting up sites like this on the forum, especially a staff member :P

No, that's ok. I know the disk's around here somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if I was sitting on it. :mischief: Besides, that disk also had Transport Tycoon and Pirates! Gold on it. :(

Becka is refering to Argentina/Paraguay/Uraguay. This area has it all in a very small easily defended spot. You can even do good enough on the furs by building up river. Plus the trade with the Incas is superb.

ahh, thanks i always saw spanish, french colonizing down there in my games, always forgot about the area when i start new games :P

You can get expert farmers, fishermen, ore miners, and silver miners trained by them. And the gifts they give your scouts are very nice. :D

My policy toward the Incans and Aztecs are:
1. Stay away from.
2. Convert, trade and talk to. Exploit, exploit, exploit
3. Kill and loot with mass invasion.

Well a very good tactic is to play as the French and/or go for Pocahontas. So the indies will be nice to you and you can make profitable trade routes with them as well as get some cheap workers (converts). After a while go and conquer the Aztecs and Incas for a large sum of treasury.

I play this style almost all of the time and it proved to be very successful :goodjob:

When I start out, I try to keep on friendly terms with the Indians and not to interfere too much with them (except the occasional missionary post or trading endeavor). Later in the game, however, I get a land crunch, and my options are either to keep my economy stunted or clear out the natives. Naturally, I choose #2.
