Taking the Iranian Umma, if it's still open.

It's open. You're in.

Is the Order of Mecca a Muslim nation?

In terms of demographics, mixed Muslim-Christian. But as a crusader state, obviously the Christians have the government.

I would like to take Quebec.

Welcome to the game and the forum!

The Regent of Heaven sends greetings to his Trans-Himalayan neighbors. Our two nations are bastions of harmony in a sea of disorder and impiety, and it is fitting for us to be allies.

I claim Israel! (please)

I probably didn't make it clear but the nuclear war happened like some time earlier. The cities should probably have been rebuilt by this point.

It happened seventy years ago, but they're still somewhat irradiated. Delhi and Islamabad were hit with more than just World War II era A-bombs.

where's the history? linkY?

There isn't really too much of a history. The players mostly filled out the details, if I'm correct.

The history given is

We are making large parts of the alhist as we go, so don't forget how important your stories and worldbuilding are. However, remember that the timeline didn't vastly diverge until the 1790s, and thereafter stayed close enough to real world history to have the two world wars and a collapsed USSR.

And a little bit with-

-Don’t even consider nuclear weapons as being possible until you have at least level 50 of a relevant tech. The people of the game world experienced limited nuclear war in 1983 and soon thereafter instituted a very successful disarmament program. On a related note, usable nuclear weapons will take up a native Unique Unit slot (unless, of course, you trade for them).

where's the history? linkY?

It's in the nation backgrounds. (Plus the really cool outline Shadowbound put together for China.) Some other stuff is in the Maybe... thread, but not all of it is canon.

On that note, if you wrote something for the Maybe... thread and because of that, won a country, repost here so everyone's clear on our timeline.

The Grand Empire of France

Spoiler :
After Emperor Napoleon I called of his invasion of Russia in 1812 and returned to consolidate the gains of France both sides built their forces and waited for the other to make a mistake. Fortifications were built and control was solidified within the French controlled territories while plans were drawn and redrawn by the coalition. After the fateful battles across the German States where the Empire of France lost ground, but cost the coalition dearly both sides began to come to the realization that a treaty would be needed to end the fighting.

Both the French Empire and her allies (the governments puppeted by the Bonaparte dynasty) and the members of the Coalition met in Holstein to create a treaty to end the Napolionic Wars. The results of the treaty were to leave the Bonaparte Dynasty in control of the thrones of France, Spain, and in what would be known forever as the betrayal of the Coalition, Portugal (which had not formally surrendered yet though was in a near hopeless position), and France annexed several border regions into France proper. In return France would remove itself from most of the German States, Italian Peninsula, the northern portion of the Low Countries, and anything further east.

After the death of the childless King Joseph II in 1913 the Iberian Penninsula was formally inherited by Emperor Napoleon III and this touched off the fears of the British who threatened a war if it was to go through. The British finding little support from its former allies and dealing with its own internal unrest never followed through with their threat.

Since then the Grand Empire of France has seen the power of the Emperor erode a bit, though the Bonaparte dynasty continues to wield a surprising amount of direct power compared to its neighbors. There have also been the occasional naval conflict with Britain and the disintegration of their colonial holdings through a mixture of neglect and revolutions.

Republic of the Caribbean

Spoiler :
As the colonial empires fell apart the Caribbean islands found themselves with a multitude of governments and a multitude of problems. As the nations on the continents warred and politicked the nations of the Caribbean failed to generate any interest from the players in the world to invest or bring factories or do anything other than ignore the islands.

The islands began to band together to try and help one another forming the Caribbean League in an effort to grow the economy of all involved. Turning to the fields of shipbuilding, aircraft, and finance the islands were able to grow exponentially. As members joined and the league grew it began to draw the anger of Central American nations as disputes arose over resources and trade. This prompted the Caribbean League to shift from simply being an economic and trade group to becoming a true unified government. They created a constitution and formally became the Republic of the Caribbean. Over the course of their unifying process Mexico decided they had become a true threat and attacked on Jan 12th, 2003.

President Miguel Rodriguez quickly responded by calling in allies in the regions to ‘defeat unprovoked Mexican aggression.’ Over the course of the conflict the new Republic of the Caribbean surprised the Mexicans and their allies by landing several amphibious assaults along the coasts of Central America. Unknown to Mexico at the time was that the League members had been being supplied by the French Empire so that the League would not pressure them to give up the few islands they still possessed in the Caribbean.

When the treaty of Havana was signed on Aug 21st, 2003 the Republic of Panama was retained by the Republic of the Caribbean so as to retain control of the canal in return for relinquishing all other territorial gains made during the conflict. This was made easier since the Republic of Panama was the only nation to actually surrender before the end of the conflict.

Since then the world has reshaped itself several times, but the Republic of the Caribbean continues to be a major player in the Americas.

Inca Republic

Spoiler :
No one was able to predict the rapid rise of the Partido Solidaridad Nacional in Ecuador. The charismatic Reza Eghtedar arrived on the political scene of Ecuador during the depression of 2014 calling for various reforms she deemed necessary to revitalize Ecuador. First elected as a senator she rose to fame for trying to push through change after change in her relentless campaign to fix Ecuador’s ills. After every bill was vetoed by the President or voted down in the senate Reza and her allies broke from all the other political parties and founded the Partido Solidaridad Nacional. The rhetoric espoused by the PSN was that the current system was corrupt and broken and refusing to mend itself so changes were required. The spoke of the glory and history of the natives of South America and how they have allowed themselves to be ruled by petty politicians who chose to sell out for personal gain rather than make the effort and sacrifice needed to improve the lot of the average Ecuadoran.

Needless to say Reza won the presidential election in 2016 with a 72% majority. The PSN took control of both houses of congress as well. In addition the PSN had expanded to Peru who also was facing the same financial and social issues that Ecuador was. While Ecuador was making the changes needed as the PSN saw it Peru was busy electing in PSN officials. The rest of the world looked on as Ecuador voted to change the constitution, essentially scrapping it, to allow the PSN to run the country as they saw fit. The first thing they did was solidify Reza as the President for life. The next thing they did once the Peruvian government and military was under the control of the PSN as it was in Ecuador was for Peru to vote for annexation by Ecuador. This new nation with Quito as the capitol was to be called the Inca Republic.

Once the militaries were integrated in 2020, President Reza presented evidence that Colombian raids had taken place into Incan land and responded by ordering a complete invasion of Colombia with the goal of complete and unconditional surrender. Fascism had completely taken hold in the Andes.

The first strikes were quick but indecisive. The War of Colombian Aggression, as called by the Incan government, lasted over five years. By the end of it Colombia was in tatters and broken. The unconditional surrender President Reza had wanted came in 2025.

Since then the Peru and Ecuadoran territories have completely bought into the nationalism of the PSN. The Colombian territories have been beaten into submission and their children sent to youth camps to see the truth of the PSN. But with President Reza on her death bed will the Inca Republic continue?

Second Japanese Empire of the Proletariat
Spoiler :
The collapse of the United States, and the world at large, following the "end" of the Cold War saw the Japanese people left to their own devices in an increasingly hostile and chaotic world. It seems then only natural that in the lack of any "conventional" authority and a self-sufficient economy, that communism would rise to fill the Japanese void. Communist revolutionaries would blaze the path towards a glorious new future for Japan; a second empire, a greater, more glorious empire. An Empire of the Proletariat.

The Peoples' Revolution of the Japanese Empire was spearheaded by a figure who, like so many communist leaders, emerged from relative obscurity to become a hero to a people who had been left behind by time and the world. Mirahito Isuda I would be Emperor of the Proletariat, and beforehand, Glorious Leader of the Peoples' Revolution. The impetus for the Peoples' Revolution was the decrepit and decayed state of government and society in Japan at the time of the collapse of its ally and benefactor, the United States.

While the Peoples' Revolution would not immediately follow the fragmentation of the United States, the intermediary Japanese Republic would be regarded by the revolutionaries as a despicable and detestable vehicle of the bourgeouise, who under the Republic prospered like never before at the expense of the downtrodden and oppressed proletariat. While it cannot fairly be said that the revolutionaries were not biased in their opinion of the republican regime, it can be concretely said that the Japanese Republic was powered not by a healthy and well-established economic and political engine, but by the self-serving corruption of the industrial giants who emerged from the chaos to establish the Republic to maintain their own interests.

The Japanese communist movement, while entirely of its own creation and motivation, gathered inspiration from the successes of communists in Africa. Indeed, the end of the Republic was brought about largely through the aid of African communists. Militant communist factions would become prevalent in the late 2020's and with funding from the African Communal States, communist agitator and leader Mirahito Isuda would lead his Peoples' Revolution of Japan in 2032.

The overthrow of the Republic would be followed by the creation of a "Proletarian Council" of revolutionary leaders, who would unanimously elect Mirahito Isuda to the position of Emperor of the Proletariat. With aid from the African communists, and through his own machinations, he would preside over the earliest years of the Second Empire and its proletarian state. His reign would see the creation of the Imperial Peoples' Armed Forces, and their successes over "capitalist pigdog puppet-states" in Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines.

The successes of the Second Empire (of the Proletariat) would see a great public confidence in the imperial regime and in the communist system. Through these means, a new and unprecedented level of stability would be brought to the Japanese people. So many years later, the Imperial Proletariat has survived and even thrived, solidifying itself as the bedrock of communism in East Asia and the Pacific. It is the position of the new Emperor of the Proletariat, however, that Japan must not rest upon its laurels. There shall be no rest until the proletariat is liberated, not only in Japan and Asia, but across the world. Onwards!
It should be noted that portions of this are invalidated/will-be-changed with the lack of a true United States/etc.
