Infernals building cities on top of mana nodes? (0.33)

I have just conquered an Infernal city that appears to have been built on top of a mana node (see screenshot). I thought cities could not be built on top of mana nodes? The mana node is an original - not caused by Rites of Oghma.

That's a ton of units


It is a developed mana node, which is even more strange. And you are correct that it ought to be impossible. Barbarian cities sometimes spawn under nodes, but in this case it is quite clearly an Infernal city name.

Standing stones feature maybe? Can they embark on them?

I've had a similar experience. Was playing as the Amurites and discovered I was neighbours with the Svartalfar. Noticed that the Broken Sepulcher was near to their capital. When I finally get round to conquering them, what do I find? They've gone and built a city on it. I had plans for that mana damn it!

you're gonna get the mana anyway if you get the city. the city will however look really weird
