Now that the term 2 elections have concluded, I was wondering what the citizens' views were on the new style of allowing only one nomination per citizen. Do we like the new format, or would we be better off with going back to the multi-nomination structure of the past. All comments welcome.
The options are:
Multi nominations as in term 1 are better.
There is no real difference.
Single nominations as in term 2 are better.
Inconclusive - insufficient information to decide.
Abstain.

The "only one election per person" worked out well in term two's elections. It helps keep out the people who run for every spot in a bid to get at least one position.

I agree with Regent man.

Very good informational poll, Gregski. The citizens are well aware of the Option choices, so the usually needed discussiion thread wasn't necessary. You posted it as informational, and you made it a public poll. Well done.

Thanks Cyc, much appreciated.

I am not against public polls but i would like that poll of this kind is NOT public.

Bah! All polls should be public. What is your reasoning for not wanting a poll such as this public?

only a few types of polls shouldnt be public:
1. elections
2. runoff elections
3. confirmation
4. guilty/innocent for CC
5. punishment for CC

I'd prefer having a limit of only being able to accept only two nominations.

I don't think public polls make this game any more democratic. Why? We have a right to not sharing our vote with everyone else. The only thing that comes out of public polls is that people do not want their vote to be known, perhaps if they aren't voting the way everyone else is. If someone wants to share their vote, then that's ok, but why does everyone need to know who voted what? That's not how it's done in democracies. If we make polls private, people who want to share their vote can, and people who want to keep it private can do so as well. So why not switch? It's a win-win situation.

I agree with you Ginger_Ale. Making polls public only invites people to go with the flow. But I will continue to make my polls public until this is changed, lest be criticized for not following the status quo.

BTW, Canada Dry is the best gingerale ever!

Well I disagree with the secret polling. Why? Japanatica has mostly electronic citizens, and the few human beings there is constitute to much less than any legislative in any democratic country. The citizens power here in the forum is tremendous, and the fact that we have public voting avoids the problem of election fraud, people voting without arguing their views and so on. I consider public polling a quality control of our decisions, so we can see a voting track record of future candidates for next election.

Provolution, if someone wants to become an official, and he or she thinks that giving their opinions from a poll as well as arguing it will help them to do that, they are welcome to share their opinions. However, I don't think that everyone has to be asked "Why did you vote that, that's not the way everyone else did?". Some people would like to keep their opinions separate, so why should we make them basically tell everyone when they don't want to? Also, about voter fraud...first, how could you do it? Second, if the mods think there has been fraud, they can ask TF to investigate the poll. I hope this might convince you. ;)

I believe Provolution is correct. Notice invy never answered my question? I believe that's because there is only one real reason for private polls. And that reason is so you don't have to be honest about your voting. Just like in real life.

You don't have to answer questions like the one in your post GA. Just keep the answer to yourself, if it's that important to you.

Tell me, what is wrong with voting without arguing your viewpoint? Seriously, is it wrong for a citizen to express themselves soley through voting? Do you consider it wrong for there to be "lurker" citizens, that chose to vote only?

Also, when examining a candidate for office, do you review their voting record? Personally, I ask them questions in the areas that I feel are relevant, and try to determine their goals for the future. I use that to base my voting on, what do you use?

I use the sum of it all, and yes, I do not abstain from answering uncomfortable questions.
I have seen mostly problems in the DG originating from secret polling combined with the multiple nomination system. I have no problem with lurkers, but do have a problem with those pretending to agree with me, and then vote in a totally different direction. If they do not like my views, they should publicly stand against my views. Yet, I know that some
types like to apply that shroud in order to further their own agenda, which is fair.

Openness is the only way to communicate openly in such a forum, and people actually having the guts to poll publicly, does not necessarily go with the flow. I do not underestimate people here in the forum. The electorate here is educated, smart capable civplayers, who are not only regular citizen, but computer literate "Congressmen" with a good understanding of CIV3 and the DG.

However, in elections and CCs I agree on secret polling, otherwise we would get mob rule or veteran rule.

If they do not like my views, they should publicly stand against my views.

So, you say that everyone who does not vote your way must be prepared to explain it? That's part of a democracy. You don't have to have everyone know who you voted for, and why you voted for it. You can't base your opinions on the way someone votes; it has to be on the way they discuss ideas, propose them, and plan them, whether or not they are the same views you have about the topic.

Well this is very interesting, but the poll is specifically about single or multi nominations in elections and not public or private polls. Perhaps someone would like to set up the appropriate discussion?

WEll Ginger Ale, they do not need to explain themselves, but staying quiet would make them look less credible to a third person. I fear that ecret polling would make the DG harder to relate to, as no onw got any idea of where the other person stands.
With the absence of political parties, this is the only way I can relate to the DG iin a structured and orderly fasion, and many agree with me.
