I never understood the appeal of Ultima games. They seemed very dry to me. lacking something called fun.

Strategy Games Players are like Chess players. Requires patience and lot's of forethought
Console/FPS/etc Players are like Draughts/Checkers players. Quick and Fun.

Civ is a Strategy Game, in the league of "Chess".

Most of the iconic games were games that now people would look back and say they remembered them. They are usually in the late 20s and early 30s. Nowadays it is Call of duty 4, Left For Dead, Gears of War, and many others now. n00bs.

Actually disagree with this.
One of the reasons Civ is so popular is how essentially simple the game really is.

Yes, you can make it very complex and there are a lot of complex decisions you can get into...but you can also just set it on warlord and start a random map and just go. And have a good old time expanding and waring and building wonders.

Most strategy games, RTS not withstanding aren't like that.

Nevertheless, I agree that you were coming off as a little pretentious, and I also agree that I see no point in you showing this to us. Are you trying to get sympathy?

Just had to say ditto to the above since you made me waste my time reading this...

The Rules for Chess are also "Simple", its the connection of the right series moves against the right opponent, that make it complex.

A good chess-player (I beat my father at age 12) can become a good strategy gamer. Playing wargames for 40 years from chess, to board wargames, to model tanks, to computer simulations gives me the "insight" to make this observation.

And yes you can take an easy route, i.e. a chess-player playing a newbie, but the similarity is still there.
